ShovelnTC 31 Posted December 24, 2016 Does anyone have any knowledege of these large base plate 2836 as being supplied in the new Noob Explorer 1's. I'm limiting my current purchases to watches that have basic movements so they can be replaced easily as I have no access to local watchmakers and my tinkering will now be limited to VERY basic stuff but I am concerned that there will be no direct replacements for these. Any info on these? Cheers, Mark.
gavmeister 1 Posted December 24, 2016 Hi Mark, Not much info about these around, but i'd assume the standard size dial and hands for a standard 2836 movement. Could you then drop in a movement ring with a smaller movement as a replacement or does it have an movement exhibition window at the back? Gav
ShovelnTC 31 Posted December 25, 2016 Hi Gav, It has a solid caseback so that won't be an issue so I suppose a generic movement ring could be used in a pinch. May never need it but I'm trying to limit what I buy with future easy movement replacement in mind being that I'm confident to swap a whole movement as long as none of it requires dissasembly as I just cant handle those tiny little bits. Cheers,

Cheers, Yeah, those fiddly tiny little bits become, LOST tiny little bits.....my tweezers have this annoying habit of catapulting them clear across the room. Have to agree that its so much cheaper putting in a new movement than having the movement serviced. Hopefully you'll get years of faithful service out of the large plated 2836 and you'll never need to replace it except when you get bored one day and see if it can be done.... edwinowl 180 Posted December 25, 2016 Have to say that's a little weird and odd. Look at the distance between the balance and edge of the plate for instance. I'd be interested to see one of these out of the case.
Rx4Time 1,472 Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) At least it's a nice and basic asian clone of a 2836. I'd have to look, but there should be an adapter plate available. Easily swapable for a ETA then if need be but these are usually pretty reliable. Edited December 25, 2016 by teddy875

I'm interested in getting one of these new Explorers but the NOOB comes with this movement and the JF comes with a 3132 clone. I'm more confident in the reliability of a 2836 than a 3132 but with this weird large plate I'm not sure if this will have the same life as a garden variety A2836 and really don't want to have to replace it in the short term. GenTLe 1,490 Posted December 26, 2016 Looking from this pic: it seems a 2824 with a bigger plate, not a Z2 which has the click in another position. Probably in case of damage, it will accept all the standard 2824 parts, maintaining its original big plate.

Due to my inability to do anything but the most basic stuff I was hoping for a watch that can have a whole movement swapped in the case of failure but re-building on the base plate isn't possible for me. Oh well now looking for another watch.
