PAM 505 Seagull

Happy New Year, RWG brethren.

My beloved PAM 505 has been pestered for some time with a chronically loose screw for holding the strap bar in place, and I have periodically tightened it (carefully) with a 1.6mm screwdriver. It was acquired via M2M, and the previous owner was frank about this issue. I believe that the screwhead has finally stripped, and although I have a superb watch smith at my disposal, I want to bring it to him after some due diligence.

First of all, I have a very subpar replacement set of brackets and screws, clearly not PVD, just a glossy black paint on steel parts. It's likely I would take the opportunity to replace the bar at such time as the screw is removed (it could be culpable in the issue, no?), so can anyone suggest a quality set of screws and bars? Toro has quoted me $45 for his- can I do better?

Secondly, but of greater concern is the scenario of an irretrievably embedded, stripped screw. How might this be extracted?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

my plan:

eventually buy a Radiomir

remove 50% of the problem by using loctite on 2 of 4 screws

possibly even use a lower level of loctite on the other 2

have spares, somehow

this plan is also why i don't own a Radiomir

Try Panatime http://www.panatime....tof2pvdscf.html

Remember to use Sconehead's sellotape trick when unscrewing Radiomir screws. What's that I hear you say?

Put sellotape over the screw-heads........... push through with your screw-driver ..........no scratches....and the screws are captured.

Panatime is a good source.

Tap that hole when you get the screw out. You can buy cheap watchmakers taps on ebay.

Never heard of a screw breaking off in the case that can't be extracted.

That's pretty brilliant, actually. Thanks! Will implement this idea after I resolve the immediate problem.

Yes, Panatime. I had a screw fall out, unbeknownst to me, and I bought a set of four from them. I don't remember what I paid, but they were a perfect match to the case on my 505 and seemed good quality.

Where are you located? I may have an extra I can send your way. I'd honestly have to look for them. Those buggers are so small I may have lost the spares.
