Submariner V7 platinum paint way too dark

Recommended Posts

Sakdds300

So I got my V7 and was very pleased with the improvements of the pearl, bracelet and clasp, but when I sat down in my living room to unwind, I glanced down at my wrist and I could barely see the bezel markings. I grabbed my V5 and WOW what a difference. I know the platinum paint is supposed to look slightly different in varying light, but I never had one where I could not see markings at all.

I would like to know if anyone else has noticed this. I will deal with it because I approved QC pics, but under bright photo lighting, you would not see how dingy the paint is. I switched bezels so it is brighter, but the old pearl is disappointing. I would wait until this gets sorted out before purchasing Sub V7.

See the difference below, Left V7 Right V5

On RWI they are all talking about this and some are going to the extent of a paint mod on bezel. It is too dark.Think they do this deliberately to be able to "upgrade" the V8,V9,V10 etc. Funny how Reg's makers seem to got it right shade considering price difference!

Disappointed that it is a know issue, my search did not turn up anything. Maybe my search terms were not correct. Hope this post helps others to wait on V8!!

My v7 paint is way too dark. I find it so annoying that I've actually never worn it. It's sitting in the box since new.

Be nice if someone comes up with a readily avaible paint color and a tutorial on how to do it, would the bezel have to be removed to paint it.

I also find the paint a touch dark in low light conditions but have yet to see a paint mod that looks good.

There are lots of posts with guys showing off their paint mods and some by so-called experts and guru's but they are always obvious with the paint coming too high up the sides of the insert but mostly rough uneven edges so it can always be seen so I'd rather have the "tell" of a dark paint than an obvious amateur attempt to re-paint them.

I actually miss the white paint on my V1 BK.

First we all complained that the inserts were white and now we're complaining that the platinum style paint is too dark, will it ever end?

Just look at in the sunlight and you will be happy :)

Silver sharpie works for a quick fix, however tends not to last that long

This is something that I have been reading about and observing for some time, or basically since we've been graced with ceramic replicas. We've seen many users and modders testing out various shades; however, I saw on another board great success utilizing a platinum plating system. I'm trying to figure out the specifics of how it works to stay only in the number channels, but it looks like a great alternative that won't require frequent touch ups.

10000% agree. Too many experts on RWI that perform paint mods and TBH it looks craphouse. You can see the overfill and uneven on the numbers. I just dont want to say it looks shit and cause a shit fight as probably these guys are charging $100USD for jobs that actually make it look worse under magnification.

Just live with it for now or wait until v8 and hope they update it. Its not THAT bad but yes it is darker.

It's the dark grey on the bezel mate

Don't panic!!!

The grey/silver paint in the numbers on the ceramic bezel are known to be darker than Gen when in low light situations.

It is noticable and it is a tell in the unlikely situation where someone who is an expert may happen to see it in a low light situation.

BUT when in a normal daylight situation there is no difference IMHO. (see my pic in the garden above.)

So keep looking forward to your new watch :)

I also got a v7 from BK, and it's also a bit darkish. Never had a Submariner though, so doesn't bother me that much. Is this a LOT different than a gen? And can I replace this with a gen and if so, how much would that cost?

People who claim they have OCD, really piss me off. Why can't they call it CDO, in the correct alphabetical order. :suck:

That's a great pic. Do you think the markings still look a little grey, or is it close to the genuine?

Yes they are definitely darker than Gen but it's like all of the faults and tells that get brought to our attention on these forums they become sooooo much worse now we have them pointed out to us.

First for a couple of years from the V1 to the V4 everyone complained that the numbers were white then when they brought out the silver there were crowds complaining that the color wasn't Gen enough then when the factories yet again changed the color trying to appease the ever critical forum members they now declare that it is too dark and now the NOOB factory has decided enough is enough and have no intention of releasing another version.

So yes my sub does look a little dark in low light but in sunlight I can see no problem.

If you want to find fault you probably will but I choose not to as it's just too damn expensive trying to achieve perfection.
