I mean seriously. I have nowt against Rotary, they do some cracking watches at good prices, but how come the big brands don't take em to court? Some of their (very nicely made by the way) watches are almost 1:1 reps except for the branding.

Imagine if GM decided to make a Mustang, Ford would go nuts!

It seems Rotary made the Ocean Avenger in 60's.

Also on the Nav. look alike saw the president of Rotary on TV was questioned on it as he was introducing it. I believe he claimed they made it long ago (first) the Breitling came later.................. I will try and find one.

The bottom line on Rotary is they are old company and might have made some of this stuff first, they just did not make the style theirs so to speak like other companies did.

:-D

I didn't realise Rotary had such a nice ba k catalogue. I've been going off reps recently and decided to try and pick up vintage gens - just looking cheapie seikos at the moment, but now I might look for some Rotarys.

I had the Chavitimer in stainless and PVD but got rid because they just weren't Breitling. Knowing that the original design may have belonged to Rotary after all is now making me think again. . . .

Those who know electric guitars will be familiar with the "Strat copy"; just different enough to avoid copyright infringement. These days you have to make the headstock a slightly different shape to avoid lawsuits, but in the old days the good ones were were pretty much exact copies..

Because it's not a registered design, only the name is copyright. Very few "things" are registered, the most famous example is "the device protecting the crown" (their words) on PAMs.
