Cartier Santos 100: 38 mm versus 33 mm

Recommended Posts

michel7752

When searching about Santos it was easy to see that the new Santos 100 from V6F is very accurate and good value for around 350 USD.

However, it has 38 x 38 mm (without crown and lugs) and thus is too big for my small wrist.

There is also a so called unisex or midsize 33 x 33 mm version. I am interested in this version and searched all TDs for hours, but unfortunately there are only a few 33 x 33 models (whereas there are many 33 x 33 with quartz). Furthermore, the technical description of the few 33 x 33 models varies between the various TD's, and thus the choice is confusing. Can anybody recommend a nice Santos 33 x 33 with mechanical movement up to 350 USD? Is there anything analog to the 38 x 38 coming from V6F?

Thank you.

Michel, what is your wrist size? I ask because I thought the same as you regarding the Santos size when I was in the market. I have a

6 5/8" wrist snd was concerned a 38x38mm square cSe would be too big. What I did and suggest for you to do is go to a Cartier AD and try on a Santos 100 in both sizes. That's what I did and bought the 38x38. It looks perfect, no regrets and it's one of my favorites.

Good luck and post pics with a review when you get it. There wasn't a V6F way back when This was a super hot watch, which btw, it still is for its owners :)

Thank you Kcore for your prompt help. My wrist is 6 5/8, too. I will try both watches at a Cartier AD as you suggest. But I am from the old school and in general I prefer smaller watches. Hence, I might still prefer a small one if I can find it in similar quality as the larger V6F. Whatever I buy - pics will be posted. (This is a weird hobby...).

I graduated college many years ago so I guess I'm old school too ;) Seriously, I have many vintage watches that are 25mm across and smaller. I love my 36mm DJ but once I gave the larger watches a go, they were very comfortable and looked great.

Let us know what you think after trying them on.

BTW, the hobby isn't weird at all, just us!

For what it's worth, my wrist is 6 inches thick.

I have the 38mm and find it wears larger on my wrist due to it's shape and dimensions.

Didn't consider the smaller one, but would urge you to consider the 33mm version given the size of your wrist.

I decided to buy the 33mm Santos. Until a few years ago, that size was considered a purely men's watch, at least for a square Cartier watch.

Unfortunately, it seems that all so called 33mm "Ultimate versions" which used to be offered up to 400 $ are currently sold out.

Hence no Santos for me...

Three months have passed since my last post here. Now, the 33mm Santos 100 is available as V6F best version at a reasonable price: below 300 USD with a Seiko NH05A automatic movement. O ordered one an will report when it arrives.

I received the watch from Toro yesterday (with Seiko movement). 2 hours later it was again in the mail - back to China for guarantee repair. When I pulled out the crown in order to set the time, the crown came out together with the whole stem. So much for quality control...

Sorry, maybe I should have taken pics for you all before sending the watch back. But you will understand that I was not in the right mood.

Shame about the watch. I'm also after the Santos in the smaller not so popular size. I'm ideally after One on a bracelet though
