Quickcoupe 0 Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) Essentially as title really. I've had my current PO rep for just under 12 months now and its never missed a beat. The only issue I had was a couple of months back the second hand dropped and started catching the minute hand. I opened it up and gave it a v.gentle re-position and all has been well since. However, last week in the middle of the day it just stopped and now nothing moves, the second hand, minute hand, hour hand.. nothing. The rotor on the back still seems to move freely but the brass balance wheel (think that's what its called) doesn't seem to move like it used to when the rotor spins (forgive my noob knowledge of movement parts). I'm told the movement I have is the Miyota 8205 21J. Not sure if this is a common prob that's an easy fix or if its terminal. Any Help appreciated as I love the watch :-( Many Thanks EDIT: Just to clarify the minute and hour hands both move freely when I use the crown to wind them. Derek Mc 1 Posted May 10, 2016 Have you given the watch a manual wind (gently) to check the mainspring?
Quickcoupe 0 Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) EDIT: Youtube is my friend Thanks Derek will give it a try when I get home. Edited May 10, 2016 by Quickcoupe
Quickcoupe 0 Posted May 12, 2016 Well, Tried the manual wind, didn't work. found that the second hand had stopped so gave it a gentle nudge with some tweezers and it started moving again. Put everything back together and it stopped again took it back apart and then tried again.. the second hand then fell off... GAME OVER?
Genius 281 Posted May 12, 2016 Maybe try removing all three hands then reattaching them maybe they aren't seated properly
TRANSPORTER 1 Posted May 14, 2016 Quick coup, never force anything on a watch mate, now you've got a 2nd hand that needs refitting, at the least. I would say that there is a possible terminal problem but and it's a big but, I personally think that there is a foreign object within the movement that has been moving around for some time and now has managed to find itself in a position that has now stopped the movement. You now have a few choices, 1 strip down your movemnt and clean and lube and refit, 2 buy a new movement and swap over your hands and dial and re case, 3 find a rep friendly watchsmith to do the work for you. All of these will involve time and money, time is yours as if you have no watch tinkering knowledge you are going to have to have a lot of patience to strip your first movement trying to find the fault. Money, well, get ready to spend some on tools if you are doing the first two yourself and if not then you need some to pay the rep friendly smith to do the work for you mate. Last option is sell it as spares or repairs on m2m mate, personally id do what I did and mend it myself, let me know if you need any help ok.
Quickcoupe 0 Posted May 24, 2016 Thanks for the detailed reply mate. To be fair I was as gentle as I could be but as you say I'm no watch smith. My preferred option is to get it repaired by a local rep friendly watch smith but I already tried that when my crystal in my previous Skyfall rep got badly scratched and needed replacement. Either nobody was willing to touch it as it was a rep or they just said "cant be fixed mate".. roughly translated as "I don't want to touch a rep".. My problem is this: 1) How much will it cost me to get the hand re-attached if I can actually find someone to do it and 2) I have already spent £200+ on the thing plus whatever this will cost me.. I'm starting to think I just cut my losses, sell it for bits and put the money in a pot and start saving for a gen.. I don't think I have enough knowledge or patience to tinker anymore Is there anyone on here that's trustworthy enough for me to send it to be fixed? BCFIT 0 Posted May 24, 2016 Quickcoupe, I had a buddy who had a similar issue with the miyota crpo. I want to say it was the BP version. I never trusted those fully. I want to say it's the one where the crown would only go about 3/4 turn before locking and releasing. Good luck in finding a solution though.
Quickcoupe 0 Posted May 25, 2016 Hi Yes I got mine from a TD on here an think it is a BP, I know its not a NOOB as I compared it to the ones in the "tale of two planets" post someone did on here a while ago and mine looked like the BP. With regards to my watch, ill be honest I think its beyond my skills to repair it as its not just the second hand that's come off its a small metal spindle that's come away with it so I think this is the spindle that all the hand attach to and its just snapped just above the minute hand :( I think I may just move it on here for spares & repairs and cut my losses.. Quickcoupe 0 Posted October 6, 2016 Sorry to resurrect an old post so to speak but its really annoying me having no watch now. I essentially put it in its box and left it until I had more time and patience but like I say above its really bugging me not having a watch now. after doing some more reading on a similar post on here it appears that there are 2 problems I have: 1) As Transporter says above there may be a foreign object in the movement preventing it from working 2) Due to my hamfistery I think I have snapped the pinion for the second hand within the hand tube (looking at the watch from above the hand tube seems to have a piece of the pinion still inside it and I only have a small nub on the back of my second hand) So my question is, how easy is it to get the pinion out of the hand tube (if that's possible) and also where can I get a spare second hand from? Also with regards the foreign object, I have given the watch a bit of a shake to see if it will work loose but nothing. Really I'd want someone on here who is a bit more savvy than me to have a look at it for me (ideally in the UK as I don't want customs issues). Any takers?
