New Deep Sea, Deep Disappointment

Being a bit of a Deep Sea fanatic I ordered yet another a couple of weeks ago, one of the new "BP" ones with better pearl etc. Received it today and very frustrated to find that the entire inner surface of the crystal is coated in fine dust which the below pics will reveal. The first pic is of the BP and the second, as comparison, one of my other old DSSDs, the third the BP, fourth old DSSD and last, (fifth) pic, once again the BP.

 

 

The dust is enhanced in these pics due to the direct sunlight but even in shade it gives the dial a pronounced and obvious diffused, soft look. Very disappointing as it couldn't be seen in qc pics but should've been seen by the person who qc'd it. The watch will now be winging its way to Kenny for him to kindly rectify; meaning I will be without it for another length of time and added cost. Not impressed.

 

Not keen on mentioning names but it came from a a dealer who is known here but not a TD, although I believe he is on another forum. I won't be ordering from him again any time soon.

 

In addition to the dust, the crystal is also too high. The dealer says its how they should be but he's wrong. On the gen it protrudes a tiny bit but is quite smooth to the touch. On this BP it protrudes about .5mm, way too much. It also does not seem to have an etched coronet either. Dealer says not all gens do (says he has one there - a gen - with no coronet) but my understanding is all gens do and any that don't will be errors.

 

Overall the quality is no better in my opinion than the noob DSSD, although the pearl is nicer. The clasp on the bracelet seems quite weak with no effort required to do it up or undo it.

 

Hopefully Kenny can work his magic, save it and change my mind, but at the moment its a purchase I sadly regret making.

It may be a stupid question, but there are some very odd reflections in the pics. It hasn't got a protective plastic layer on the crystal has it?

Save yourself some cash and strip it yourself and clean it, then atleast it's still in your possession isn't it, don't know how much you paid for it though

That sucks man. This hobby can be a real pain sometimes. I just had my first encounter with "Jandrew" and I must say it wasn't great. We'll see when the watch gets here to comment further. I'm sure Kenny will get you sorted though.

It's funny you should say that but at first that is exactly what I thought it was. I kept trying to prize up the end of the crystal expecting (hoping) a plastic covering would come off, but no, sadly not.

 

It is my fault in that I should've stuck to Toro but someone else had recently bought one of these from Josh so I thought I'd go to him too. It just pisses me off so much that they care so little for the business that they are in or their clients that their watches are quite clearly not qc'd at all, in effect.

Thanks Umpa, I've every confidence that Kenny will get it sorted for me, and he is indeed thinking of perhaps changing the crystal, but will know more once he's seen it. Because the crystal is so high distortion of the dial takes place more prominently too than on my other DSSDs.

What I find fascinating is that the Chinese go to what is, I assume, huge effort to create what are generally very high quality and impressive watches (I know they are reps but they are still watches in their own right, regardless) and then spoil it though lack of care and attention at the end.
