Swiss ETA 2824-2 - What is this part? (PIC)

Spotted this on http://www.global-horology.com/GHMB/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=4773

Its a genuine ETA 2824-2 movement with a rouge screw loose. See that gold lever pointed out by the red arrow? What does this part do?

I have yet to come across this lever in any of the 2824-2 movements I have worked on.

Simples: That lever, as indicated by the L-shape, is to remind you that this particular swiss movement is a Labour of Love...

Fuck me if I know - I could probably put 200 red arrows in that pic followed by a question mark...;-)

Yep that's your hacking lever. It stops the movement (by pressing on the balance wheel) when setting the time :)

Aha, cheers guys. Don't recall seeing this on the last movement I rebuilt.

Thanks again!

Indeed, I am now at the stage where I can completely disassemble a 2824-2 and 2832-2, clean all parts, one dip balance and reassemble with oils :)

Still have a long way to go with the 7750 though. I thought I'd completed my first assembly but one tiny spring beat me, its the one under the date assembly, near the chronograph reset pusher.

I have actually stripped down and rebuilt a 7750 as I sold a watch on RWI M2M but one of the movement clamps fell off during transit and jammed the movement. So I had to completely strip it down. I should have taken photo's - I'll do that next time .

I'm busy building a wooden clock at the moment - a much cheaper hobby than rep watches !!! :)

Cool. I am currently looking for an old oak clock for a shelf above my work bench. Probably go for a Smith's.
