Vintage Gen vs. New Rep

Recommended Posts

dmetz

I'm looking to get a Royal Oak and I'm kind of torn between dropping $5-7k on a very early gen (1970s or '80s) in near-mint condition or spending $400-500 on a top-notch rep. How will they compare in terms of reliability? How good are the best fakes? Any general advice? This will be my first serious real watch purchase.

The best fakes are good, the best is the best sub.

the best rep has a miyota movement in so should be pretty reliable, probably more so than a 40year old gen

Get the high end RO rep, get a Prof crystal and you will have an amazing watch for 700$.

The best and next to best fakes are extremely good and much less costly to maintain/service than the gen.

On the other hand, introduced in 1972, it took 3 years to sell the first 1,000, you could have something that's not as ubiquitous as a Sub.
