Not ugly as much as ostentatious.

Sorry kibbee, can't agree with you on that. NOW this would be

"ostentatious"

'characterized by pretentious, showy, or vulgar display'

Well thank you very much kind sir! Imo if these had a different, more exclusive brand name they would likely sell pretty well, and probably not receive all the hate.....

You are correct in that not all of them are. But there are quite a few that I personally find "showy, or vulgar display (of wealth). For instance:

And there are a few that are just fugly.

Hmmm. not sure my pedigree chum how long you;ve been into horology, but Maurice Lacroix have been around since the early 60's, altho comparatively young, they are an established atelier / manufacture designing and making their own movements, compare them to a similar brand from the late 60's Hublot, who still use ETA ebauche and who have nowhere near the design flair that ML has, their entire line is 7750 based and consists of virtually the same design dressed in different clothes, ML have an extremely diverse range and recently introduced the Memoire 1, a completely in house manufactured movement, they are not a 'lightweight' manufacture or brand.

Funny you just chose the one that I really liked.

I know and understand the brand but to me when you put all the little useless sub dials such as PR, moon phase, and retrograde scales, it just clutters up the watch face and screams "expensive" while not adding anything functional. They're just expensive status symbols.

And a gen rose gold Hublot is one of the most ostentatious watches I've ever seen in the wild. Of course it was attached to a guy with a gold chain, diamond and gold pinky ring, and a fat cigar.

@ kibbee, thanks for the debate. let's keep it civil, informative and hopefully entertaining

Let me offer a slight rebuttal, bearing in mind that we are talking about taste and opinion, in which we all differ, but I'd like to deal with the singular aspect of your comment ' Austin - Tayshus;.

1. The first photo you selected are Ladies diamond encrusted timepieces, I'm certain that any lady wearing one of these would never be be described as ostentatious or vulgar, they're simply haute joallerie items.

2. The second and fifth items are simply 'skeleton' pieces, designed to appeal to those who are fascinated with the mechanical aspects of watches, similar designs are available from various other manufacture, from average to expensive prices, I personally don't like them, so we're agreed on that.

3. Item no. 3, is an entirely functional piece and believe me, if you see one in the flesh, I am certain that you would change your mind, it's a very handsome piece, altho' perhaps not in the blue dial, the white version is quite stunning.

4. The 'Art Deco' lozenge shape item is a classic design, clean functional and devoid of frippery, just a simple power reserve and date indicator, it would look good on the wrist of any man with discerning taste, reminiscent of Hamilton, GP, Cartier Tank,

So, whilst they may not be to your particular taste, I'm sure they'll appeal to a few.

Besides which. it's nice to look at the pretty pictures, no?

:D

Don't mind me ignoring the dancing fool, he's probably the guy!

With a couple of exceptions, I like them (particularly the retrograde GMT /power reserve indicators) ... nice diverse lineup, I think.

I'll have to say that a skeleton movement looks great from the back with a clear case back. From the front it looks just plain weird. And it's way to difficult to see the time.

And Reg obviously just put the other one on for the picture. Otherwise the PR meter wouldn't be at zero. He probably wouldn't wear it out of the house. :P
