Panerai, no date or second hand

Recommended Posts

Slim

I really like the look of Panerais like this, with the curvy, domed crystal and general retro vibe:

But what I'd really like is something very similar, but with no second hand, something minimal and retro. I do like the distinctive crown guard though.

Unfortunately I know next to nothing about Panerais, so before I start clicking through the many hundreds of replicas of them on the various trusted dealer sites, I thought I'd ask if something like that does actually exist. Grateful for any pointers.

Yes, they do. You need to look for the luminor base models (although they're without the domed crystal) - along with some of the vintage versions.

Here's an example of a luminor base: http://www.replicamake.com/index.php?cPath=78_139

Edit: and here's a couple of vintage models with the domed crystal you're after:

6154 (yes, I know it says Rolex, but there are versions with Panerai dials too)

The vintage are nice, but then you loose the "distinctive crown guard" that he wants.

Are there any vintage dome crystal with the CG?

@Slim - you might be looking for something like this in a 47mm but with a crown guard. You can buy a PAM 1950 and have someone fit a custom dial like what Nightwatch sells here to it. You're probably looking at a little bit of coinage though - $4-600.00 bucks.

@Slim - it's like being addicted to crack here and trying to walk through a crack house without taking a hit. You are toast buddy!

Thanks for all of the replies, very helpful and interesting.

In fact there's a pic on Nightwatch's section that I've just found which is more or less just what I'm looking for, except that (1) it's been distressed (beautifully I might add - looks very convincingly aged) and (2) it's obviously a project that an awful lot of work has gone into, whereas I'm looking just to order a relatively inexpensive replica off a dealer's site.

:giggle:

I know. I've got a sinking feeling that I won't be able to stop itching to buy another watch.

I seem to have found exactly what I was looking for at timesshop.net, here: http://goo.gl/0gGib

Interested to know from Panerai fans whether this corresponds to a real watch. Even if it doesn't, seems rude not to take a chance at that price. I'm waiting for my first delivery from timesshop.net already, and if that works out OK, I'll order one of these I think.

The PAM112 has a nice clean dial.

This is actually a good choice for the price. The mini-fiddy case (44mm) is stunning. You'll more than likely need a new plexi crystal because the factory installed ones break easily. They really do... I was sitting on the couch watching TV and I heard this "Tink" sound, looked down and the crystal had just shattered in the middle - almost a round hole in it - and for no good reason - it just said I've had enough and..."Tink". Anyway, your dial is a Radiomir which I thought does not come with a crown guard. It's also a 21J auto and not a hand wind. I prefer the hand wind 6497 movement on this type of watch. It allows you greater flexibility in making modifications to it. You will like the look and feel of it - as I said the case is stunning and it's the right price.

Thanks. That's disappointing, as I don't really want to be having a new crystal fitted. Anyone know roughly what having a better crystal fitted would cost? I might give up on the domed crystal and go for something like the PAM112 that AllergyDoc posted. Might not have the same retro appeal but it does have a lovely minimalist dial.

Sorry Panerai, appreciate the thought but I still think I'll wait for the replica.
