What would cause 3 x 6497 movements to stop working at once?

3 watches I haven't worn for a while, changed the time, wound them, none of them work.

Aliens?

EMP?

A curse?

Elves sent by SSTEEL?

Fuck knows, but I'm annoyed. My Elgin conversion has also died, just as I got a good strap for it.

I thought that the 6497 was like the offspring of a cockroach that had fucked a nokia 3310 for reliability and durability

Do you have a degausser, maybe they got magnetised somehow

No. I may get one from the bay, just thought such an effect could explain a fast/slow watch, not altogether dead (x3).

You need to spin them against the earths magnetic field, float them in the bath and remove the plug, make sure that the whirlpool above the plug hole is rotating anti clockwise as bath empties. This rotation will counteract any magnetic field thus de-magnetising the movement.

Easy peasy :thumbsup2:

I'm not sure if you're trolling or you're some sort of physics genius

In a way it is :) The MRI is also a (ultra powerful) magnetic field generator:

@elp: I am not suggesting you to try putting your watch in a MRI machine :D

I wouldn't worry as it's all I use and I use mine a dozen times a week, it works just fine. You don't hold the watch on it, you place it on it, press the button and then draw the watch away. One advantage is it doubles as a quartz driver to revive dead quartz movements. Place the quartz watch on the device and press the button but FFS, DO NOT MOVE THE WATCH WITH THE BUTTON PRESSED!!! If you do the quartz MVT is toast. You should see the hands spinning at great speed (about .5 to 1 round a second of the minute hand) and if not release the button and move the watch slightly. When you find the point where it does spin leave it there spinning until its done an hour or so. This should free up the movement and your previously dead quartz will come back to life. If it doesn't chances are the coil is dead and unless its an expensive MVT just fit a new one.

Thanks good to know as I wouldn't have had a clue how to actually use it if I ever need to
