Bored at work Vol. II... The Bronze Age

Recommended Posts

So I know you have seen this before from others but...

My staff is too hoity toity for ketchup. All I could find in my fridge was horseradish mustard:

The spa treatment

And cleaned up a bit:

And some romantic lighting to highlight her beauty:

What happens if you only use ketchup is you don't have liver of sulphur?

The ketchup cleans the bronze like new. If you want a quick patina but don't have liver of sulfur I have heard you can cook an egg and put it in a ziplock with the watch. It takes longer but has the same effect

I really want to achieve this effect on my Bronzo but can't seem to get it there:

Though the dude in the suit looks kinda like a wiener with the watch over his coat and up his arm

Does that finish stay on pretty well? I have not seen this method before at all. I LOVE the look. I want that watch now haha!

The finish does stay because the liver of sulfur "rusts" the outer molecular layer. I say "rusts" because bronze doesn't really rust like steel. I get a good coat on and then let it dry and remove the finish with 000 steel wool where I want it to look like there is higher shine from wear.

Doesn't it rub off and leave a blackish residue on your skin...?

Not sure let me check

Nope!

I suppose if you really rubbed it for a while it might. The spot I just rubbed is now shinier blackish then the other spots. I buffed it with a cloth polishing wheel dry for the final finish. The wheel is slightly darker now.

And that's 5 minutes or so with pretty solid pressure all around

Looks pretty solid/inert. Good on ya.

It's just that some sorts of patina rub of if you transpore even the slightest...which tells me that the oxidation is not stable...

Do you sell those watches done up that way? That is just really cool!

So I sat there...bored at work of course and thought. Hey... I should bust a move on my other bronze rep:

Here we have my Italian made replica of the 1851 Colt Navy revolver.

Got the wood grip off and ready for 170ish years of looks like use.

Same treatment as the watch. Plus aging the grip, then high shine polish on the parts that get worn well. Right side of gun more worn than left as a right hander will pull it out of a holster on his right hip and slightly outward at the same time.

I left the patina spotty and dark in some areas because after he loads all of the rounds and powder, the gunman would smear lard over the holes of the cylinder preventing spark from the lit powder in the chamber from igniting all the powder in the other cylinders at the same time. Blowing up the gun and making a mess of his hands at the same time. So yeah. It's a little more greasy than a watch, even though mine just looks dirty

I have the best job. I actually work pretty hard but then have a lot of time sitting around. The thing that makes me good at my job also is a curse. I work with my hands and never stop tinkering. And I'm a good boss. My employees work hard and then spend their free time on Facebook or watching zit popping videos on Facebook. We just have to act professional when there are people there that pay me good money to be professional.

My next installment is going to be a poor mans carbotec case! Still haven't figured out exactly how. And you will see the process that works, not the fails so it may take a few days. Plus I don't work weekends. Or Fridays. Or half days Thursday. And no such thing as bored at home on weekends:
