trailboss99 994 Posted February 6, 2011 This one's best watch for the blind ever, by a long shot! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/129439...a-braille-watch
Ginault 0 Posted February 6, 2011 This is a brilliant idea! Some additional thoughts: 1. Manufacturing cost has to be cheap. Final product, the watch for the blind, should not be priced over $300. So, families without med insurance could still afford it. 2. Automatic movement or manual wind movement are not ideal power sources for the watch. It's difficult for a blind person to adjust time without other's help. 3. This watch is supposed to be as accurate as quartz watches. However, utilizing a quartz watch movement is not possible - quartz motor does not have enough torque to move the dial. So, we probably need a new engine. An engine that is a rechargeable lithium battery powered, hence can put out enough torque to move the dial. 4. We should design a tiny generator with a rotor attached to the battery. So, the watch re-charges as long as the owner wears it. Owner of the watch could recharge the battery by winding the crown. 5. Watchcase has to be water resistance at some degree.
