Wiz 0 Posted February 17, 2011 Today I relumed the dial of the Breitling Avenger I recently won in a raffle. So far this is the most difficult lume job I've done. It consists in 3 fixed hollowed indexes (not glued) and 9 dots applied straight on the dial (flat). I used w@tchlume pigments (pure GMax for the bottom layer, half Gmax / half WG for the top layer) with my own binder and thinner. Here is a little before/after comparision. Each time the dial was exposed for 30 sec under my bench lamp. Pics are just resized, no post treatment. So, what do you think?
greg_r 81 Posted February 17, 2011 The dots came out really well. The indices look a little uneven though... Still, way better than it was before - a nice attempt at a very difficult job!
Wiz 0 Posted February 17, 2011 Yes, I'm still not happy with the hollowed indexes. I should have been more carefull removing the old lume.
KeNnY 29 Posted February 17, 2011 the most difficult job indeed ! It is really hard, when you can not remove the indexes. But good job !

Wiz 0 Posted February 18, 2011 Well, I wasn't happy with the uneven lume on the hollowed indexes, so I decided to took it off. When there are fixed indexes on a dial, or whenever I think there is a risk of damaging the dial, I always make a protective layer out of a crystal protection label. But for a reason I still can't understand, and even though the protective layer was less than a meter away from me, this time I decided not to use it. Well, nine minutes later the other shoe dropped.... Take a look near the 9h marker Good thing is that now I have a new spare dial to have a little fun with
Wiz 0 Posted February 22, 2011 Is there something wrong with me? Today I ran out of dials, so....

MikeMcNair 0 Posted February 22, 2011 hell yeah, worst case, buy the the little metal part and make another. i think you did so well it would be a shame to chalk it up as a loss. looks good bro.

pollux1 3 Posted February 22, 2011 It's coming along nicely, good work but the indices need sprucing up a little.

Not sure what you mean. Indexes are machined into the dial, not glued. And the problem is the little nick near the bottom right corner of the 9h index. I hit the dial with a scalpel
