Retina 0 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) Retina the Rolerai (is that what we call them!) Had one just like yours stupidly let it go , you know where to get another? DSN, then to KeNnY for a puffy relume. Retina does yours have this movement? I heard he hasn't had them for years. I think mine was one of the last. My rolerai was made by none other than blackshark at RWI I contacted him when I first started reps in 2014 I have two rolerais, the one which you both have quoted -6154 and one more, a 3646 my 3646 has rolex backplates with gold filling, and the backplates has been finished with cote de geneve finish my 6154 does not have the rolex backplates because I didn't think it was worth the extra cost, i instead, went for an eta hammered movement which is gold in color, it looks good in combination with that bubbleback plexi. I was lucky, the dial which my 6154 came with was one of the last dials manually crafted over at homageforum which blackshark managed to get hold off, this is the icing on the cake when examined up close under the bubble plexi.. I have updated my 6154 with a crocodile strap in combination with a custom made wood buckle with bronze tang by none other than ingo of fine watch buckles, I was very lucky again in that regard - Ingo continued making custom buckles after taking a short break last year. His custom work on buckles is simply amazing. A lot of work has went into my vintage collection - slow searching and small upgrades every once in awhile, a vintage watch is like a painting, strokes of paint are layered every once in awhile to achieve a holistic look that looks good. Hope you guys enjoy the pic as much as I enjoyed layering them over the years I joined this community back in 2009 but only really started getting into this hobby seriously in 2014 (I am on your forum too Mike as you know ) Every vintage build has a very long story, lots of trial an error; by the builder, headaches when parts don't arrive or when things screw up.. Just like the gens, the journey is long but fruitful, albeit a very less expensive one relatively to gens Many thanks goes to the rep communities and modders I have worked with over my short time in this hobby The vintage collection posted by Ishmael and Thrasher initially really got me into the whole vintage gig... and the further I went in, the more I appreciated people with fine taste, Daywatch, JJ, Bart Cordell, NCRich, MoTB and Sbbybuster (Just to name a few) -Ret Edited August 9, 2016 by Retina
Retina 0 Posted August 9, 2016 I am shamelessly putting it out there; I am looking for a 5513 PCG with gilt dial, a 6542 GMT and a 6538 (modded with chamfered case) let me know if you want to part with it
Daytona_Dreamer 0 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm loving all the Daytonas that I see in this thread. Obviously I am biased. When not wearing one of my Daytonas, I've been digging of late the 1625 Thunderbird.

fatarms 7,801 Posted August 11, 2016 Love that ghost insert This was my wife's grandfather's watch, a 16750 from 1983. He wore it for about 25 years in the Texas sun and it bleached the crap out of it. It took me a bit to warm up to the ghost bezel, but now I love it even more knowing that there aren't many out there with the matte tritium dial and the ghost insert. Most of the dials were replaced with a more satin dial with metal borders on the minute markers when they were sent back into Rolex for servicing over the years. The lume is long gone, but the character is there for good with the watch.
Retina 0 Posted August 11, 2016 @fatarms I love the provenance of your piece... its just one of those pieces which have been untouched and aged naturally... the ghost inserts are very rare as you mention - RSC just swap them out whenever they bring it to service... We could say that its a collector's dream to find one like yours - untouched, unpolished and original...
