SteveR123 0 Posted February 23, 2011 I've been looking at the Panerai watches for a while and considering a purchase. Seen as there are so many people here who really like these I thought I might take advantage of member's experiences, opinions, and hopefully pics to help complete my shopping experience. Thanks! greg_r 83 Posted February 23, 2011 Good places to start from what's available at the moment: 177L, 005, Radiomir 288 All three are really nice quality and have excellent gen-like lume. The 177 is probably the best PAM rep I own. Having said that, the PAM127 (fiddy) is iconic and should be in everyone's collection - only thing to bear in mind is that it's big at 47mm - the others I mentioned are 44 or 45mm. Del 4,514 Posted February 23, 2011 I absolutely love my PAM288 Radiomir Chronograph .
NFleischer 4,355 Posted February 24, 2011 I would say most people start with the 111 like this one. The new 177 is similiar but made of Titanium. There are tons of model numbers but not that many different styles. That's why most of us end up with a bunch of them. First you get the 111, then you want a GMT, then a chrono, then a sub, etc, etc.

Member X 91 Posted February 24, 2011 I never liked PAMs - until I got one... 47mm Fiddy is a must buy - Robert (PrestigeWatchCo) has a $99 starter version and also a $300+ version which I think is probably the best you can get at the moment (or so says greg!) The 44mm versions are numerous and all different numbers - 177 (titanium, sandwich dial), 111 (stainless steel, sandwich dial), 219 (lefty version of the 111), 005 (stainless, solid caseback, sausage-lume dial) are probably the main ones, with new versions out of each. Look at the reviews and see what you like - all these are pretty much super-reps, but the 111 isn't quite as good. Start with a $99 Robert version of the 111 if you're not sure, or look at Getat or Jackson Tse / MilitaryTime for homages! 45mm Radiomir is the 183 and another 'classic' - Robert has a $99 starter version. There are many others as well - submersibles, vintage... - so check out the reviews and see what elements you like. You can usually find one combining all your preferences! midasmook 14 Posted February 24, 2011 Best advice Steve is to stay away from them and you will save a fortune but once you start down the Pam road there is no going back. This is the new Pam 005 and it's the best out of the box Pam I've ever seen. The Pam 111 is a must....... then you can add a Daylight.......... then a sub....... the list goes on and on and on
Mazz 62 Posted February 24, 2011 Like everyone else said be careful or you might join us at Pam Anonymous meetings. Yeild to the power of Pams :(
instinct 0 Posted February 24, 2011 (edited) all these are pretty much super-reps, but the 111 isn't quite as good. There's no super rep of the 111? I just bought one from Mary, and it's my first buy.. hoping it'd be a good rep. By the way, just wondering is 44mm a big watch? solkryssare 109 Posted February 24, 2011 I be I will love the 005 when it arrives but my all time favourite is the 164. 297 is up there as well.
wombosi 0 Posted February 24, 2011 In my opinion the 111 and 183 are two good models to start with. PAM 111 PAM
GC 4,517 Posted February 24, 2011 It's not per say a PAM Rep because it doesn't have any markings or branding (like the original 3646) but it's heavily inspired by a PAM249. I guess you could say it's more of a homage, or maybe it could be considered a closer Rep of the original 3646 which the 249 honors... either which way it's my favorite
Member X 91 Posted February 24, 2011 How could I forget that one?! PAM 249 (and its homages) = awesome :P
Member X 91 Posted February 24, 2011 all these are pretty much super-reps, but the 111 isn't quite as good. There's no super rep of the 111? I just bought one from Mary, and it's my first buy.. hoping it'd be a good rep. By the way, just wondering is 44mm a big watch? The current batch of reps that have come out and are coming out (includiing 288K, 005, 177L and 219, and I think the 212 or 252??) are pretty much super-reps, bar the movements in the display-back versions, but the 111 that has just come out is good but not quite as good because it's from a different factory and hasn't got superlume. It's still a nice watch though, don't worry As for 44mm being big... at first it might seem massive but you soon get used to it and then you want to get the 47mm models... :P and if you're brave, the 52mm 'mini-egi' or the 60mm Big Egiziano!
