Wiz 0 Posted March 6, 2011 After the comparison between a gen and a rep IWC Pilot Chronograph 3717, here is a quick one between rep and gen IWC boxes. When looking at it from the outside, you can't really tell which is which. Size, color and finish is exactly the same. The following shots have been taken under the exact same angles. As you can see, the font spacing and alignement is not exactly the same. Some letters are also a bit thicker or thinner. At first sight the only noticeable difference is the color of the "leather". Gen is off-white, while rep is bright white. Gen box opens wide, at round 90°. Rep opens a little less, around 80°. It may not seems much, but it actually makes a difference. The fonts and sizes of the letters are off, but overall the size is good and the stamping is well replicated. The hole where the "closing pin" is received is a bit off, so is the edge of the "cushion hole". The overall finish is alsway better on the gen. No real difference here. On the gen you can see there is an elastic in the hollow where the bracelet resizing tools are stored. Inside is stop on. No real difference here as well. Except from the fact that the rep hinge feels weak, the back on the box is stop on. The major tell here is the lack of "recyclable" logo on the rep box. Except from the color, the major difference here is the quality feel. Rep cushion really feels cheap at every level. Thanks for watching

Horace Derwent 811 Posted September 5, 2014 Well, i reup this thread for a simple quesiton: I'm in contact with Robbie, Andrew and Angus...well, which has THE BEST (money doesn't matter) REP boxes ? Please answer me !
higginsd 0 Posted September 5, 2014 If money doesn't matter - go for a gen box. All the TDs simply have the same sources and sell the same boxes.
Horace Derwent 811 Posted September 8, 2014 @higginsd: unfortunately money DOES matter a lot (especially in this period...) you know, a GEN Breguet or AP box would cost me hundreds of €
JSJ 0 Posted September 8, 2014 If money matters don't buy a box. If it doesn't, buy a gen box.
higginsd 0 Posted September 8, 2014 Hey Horace, you yourself wrote "money doesn't matter"... ?!? JSJ: +
Horace Derwent 811 Posted September 14, 2014 Hey Horace, you yourself wrote "money doesn't matter"... ?!? JSJ: +1 Money relatively doesn't matter
higginsd 0 Posted September 14, 2014 Ok. Simply choose a rep box from any TD, they are all the same. I had mine from InTime. The box is OK, like described above, possibly a bit better. It was 70$ AFAIR and worth the money. Compared to a gen AND the price of a gen box (350-400$) it is a steal.
