Rehaut engraving Q

Recommended Posts

ElvisAaron

I have the BK TWsub, I'm a huge fan of it so far. Question though, on his (and the others I see avail on other sites) the engraving on the rehaut has very dark, almost burned-looking etch. A Boston watch dealer friend picked up on it right away when I showed him the piece (although he did say its by far the best rep he's ever seen)

On my friends gen the engraving is pretty much the same color as the rest of the case material.

Whats the difference?

A crappy laser would be my guess.

It's what happens when you laser engrave steel too fast and then don't clean it.

Basically to save time I'd guess the rep factories whack up the power on their laser and run the reheat very fast doing the engraving in a single pass. (The case will be clamped on a rotating jig)

They'd really need to give the whole case a decend clean both by hand and ultrasonically but I very much doubt they do!!

I have a feeling the gen might even be engraved on a CNC mill rather than laser anyway but that is a very time consuming process.
