1961 “El Corniño” pcg gilt 1675

The argentinian 1961 “El Corniño” pcg gilt 1675 - year of my birth watch

I know I built this, but it is one of the most iconic and beautiful watches I have ever owned. Not just any 1675. Between all of the variations GMT-Master, it´s this early successor of the bakelite- bezeled reference 6542.

History: First introduced in 1959, this is the pcg, gilt 1675. Nicknamed the “El Corniño” by collectors for its horn-like appearance (from El Corno in Spanish meaning the horn or the Bull´s horn, with the diminutive added “Little Horn” like Little Bighorn, Custer´s Last Stand) it features a curved profile that points towards the crown. The Corniño lasted only from 1959 to 1965/1966, making it a rarity in today’s market, while the 1675 would be produced for 21 years until 1980, a testament to its real world functionality and timeless design.

The combination of blue, red and gold against the black lacquer Yuki gilt dial works amazingly well. The PCG really adds to the look of this. I left it like a box queen, for me it really is too beautiful in person to age.

If I had to own only one watch, this would be it.

The specs:

Standard cartel case, 3804b

Drilled lugs, crown guards reshaped to PCG

Yuki lacquered gilt dial

Small GMT hand, hands relumed to match Yuki gold lume

Clark bezel assembly and insert

I doubt that Rolex ever produced a model named El Cornholio.

Oh man that is nice! This isn't helping my new found obsession of the vintage rolex. Been looking into 1675 build and then I see this. Must resist ;)

Found this by searching for 1675, ha! Congratulations mate, you have an absolute beaut there.

For some reason (practical) I like the old 1675s more than the new. And this reason is the quickset feature! Being that we often swap watches, having a quickset date is almost a must. And while the new movements are starting to be reliable with the CHS, the fact of the matter is that you will be skipping hours for a while in order to get the right day.

Plus... These vintage Rollies look incredibly amazing! I especially like the small GMT hand and how stunning it looks with the jubilee bracelet.

If our wanted to start with a base watch, would this one be a decent starter before going into mods? http://www.pf-818.com/watches/rolex/gmt-master/vintage-collection/0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-rlgv00111-v-gmt-1675-ss-jub-blk-a2836.html

If not, which one would you recommend, instead?

Congrats again, sir, amazing watch and amazing work!

I believe that is the "cartel" 1675. I would get it in the less expensive 21j movement. That is the most reliable and has a correct beat rate. This 1675 is out of stock currently at our dealers, but I'm sure it will be back very soon.

Unbelievable work. Your case reshaping is something I'm curious about. New to this board so will dive around a bit to see if I can learn more, but damn man.... just stunning work.
