Phanphy 0 Posted May 15, 2017 Hi all, Unfortunately came home last week to find that my house had been broken into, (here comes the worst part!) - and my beloved watch collection was stolen. Had about 9 high end reps taken, as well as my grail gen Speedy. Am currently in the process of sorting out insurance, unfortunately nothing was specifically insured - I have receipts for all of the reps (and gen luckily) - just wanted to know if anyone had been through anything similar before? And what the process would be like for claiming reps under home & contents insurance? (How do you even explain the concept of reps!) Would appreciate any advice/guidance at all! Cheers! ShovelnTC 31 Posted May 15, 2017 Also sorry to hear about the theft. I'd be nominating the Reps as Homages but they'll usually want to see receipts or at least photographs of some sort. You may also have limits for specific category such as jewelry so that may limit what you can claim. Just don't mention Reps as these guys jobs are to find any way out of paying so if they deem it as a prohibited item you'll get zip.
RussP 22,452 Posted May 15, 2017 I too am sorry to hear about your misfortune. I don't think insurance policies specifically exclude replica anythings. Call them and inquire. Most policies have limits on unspecified valuables, so you will most likely get your Speedy replacement and some loose change (upto the limit) for your reps. SuperbMonster 11 Posted May 15, 2017 Sorry to hear about the theft. I hate burglars, pure scum. It will be down to your insurers claims policy as to what you will get back. As there are no specific items there will be a generic item limit. A lot of UK insurers default this to £1000 or £1500. In theory they should pay out for your reps, the items themselves aren't illegal and you can prove the spend however I doubt they will make it easy. Good luck, I hope you get a decent outcome and they catch the bastard. Let us know how you progress with the insurance claim.
tomtom1988 63 Posted May 15, 2017 I doubt your reps will get paid out for, they are counterfeit items? Hold tight for the gen insurance though, I got paid out more than I paid for my last gen, took a good while though and a bit of haggling
Cubic Hare 494 Posted May 15, 2017 Keep an eye out on ALL the watch forums incase a certain seller happens to be selling the same watches as you had stolen. Sorry to hear about your loss.. Cheers

dilip 0 Posted May 15, 2017 This is a terrible violation and I'm so sorry to hear it happened to you. My insurance company does not necessarily want receipts for everything and only requires added insurance for watches and pens etc when stolen or lost outside the home. Other than that they just requested pictures of yourself and the object proving it having been in your possession recently. Good luck!
purger72 0 Posted May 15, 2017 Sorry to hear about your misfortune it sucks. Hopefully those bastards get what they deserve and manage to get your money back mate. Wish you all the best of luck with insurance claim. Probably burglars thought all the watches are gens !

tonyh7 247 Posted May 15, 2017 Watch box must be attractive to burglars - easy to grab and full of shiny stuff. The watches won't appear on rep forums, but will be sold off down the pub for a fraction of their worth. These people aren't very bright, probably won't even differentiate the gen from the reps. Would be interested to know how it goes with the insurance.
wimpie007 108 Posted May 15, 2017 Damn, this would be my worst nightmare! I think I would fight the burglar for them Took me forever to collect and is irreplaceable. Yeah so is my life but I'd hate to be the burglar with my watch cases in his hand. But these thing happen when we're away
Lagger 160 Posted May 15, 2017 A cockney on my rig tried to sell me a hot watch, but the story changed from it being hooky to a drug debt repayment. The watch was a planet ocean 'special edition' chronograph with a cracked bezel, £650, that was verified by a Jewish jeweller as genuine. It turned out to be a fantasy QUARTZ model, and when I told him he was not best pleased as he had about£500 on it. Maybe take a little bit of satisfaction that these shit bags might just get their come uppance on trying to move your watches on

GenTLe 1,509 Posted May 15, 2017 Fuck :( So sorry for you! Burglars are one of the few occasions where I don't mind to see the sharia applied... Chopping hands is a good way to inhibit the use of effraction tools :E
narikaa 129 Posted May 15, 2017 Bear in mind a little stroke they like to pull if a sniff of importation arises: Proof of duty paid ! (no can do - then its contraband and uninsured) Happened to a mate with a genuine 'Wrist Pluta' (Roowlecks) and a genuine loss As with all insurance, the time to find out everything and research all the T&c's is BEFORE you submit any claim
BM284 1,520 Posted May 15, 2017 Mate - I can only echo what other members have said - I'm really sorry to hear this news. I hope you are able to claim something back on your insurance - and if the thief tries to move the reps on as gen then I hope he gets a pasting!

Yeah that may be the way to go, once I suss out the T&Cs I'm just a very passionate homage watch collector hahahah. Cheers!!!

Thanks heaps for the insurance advice gents! Luckily I've got lots of photos of the reps (too many probably hahah) - maybe will try avoid giving them the actual receipts as they would probably seem a bit dodgy Can only imagine their faces when they try to pawn in the watches only to realise they're not gen! Phanphy 0 Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) Thanks again everyone for your advice/support on this! Good to be part of a community like this one (when I try and explain this to anyone else they just stare blankly) :P But on the positive side, I can restart my collection from scratch! (assuming the insurance goes well fingers crossed) Should probably edit my signature to zilch too :( Edited May 15, 2017 by Phanphy

NFleischer 4,355 Posted May 15, 2017 That's terrible, so sorry to hear. A few years ago while having some work done in my apartment 4 high end reps, including several BK Subs & YMs were taken. I knew it was one of the workers but couldn't prove it. They denied of course. I ended up taking $700 from the bill which the contractor accepted. After that, I put a special jewelry rider on my Insurance . Good luck!
cattlerustler 0 Posted May 18, 2017 I feel for you, we were robbed a few years ago, tool our car and some other stuff, all our jewelry and watches were luckily upstairs with us, yes we were asleep when they broke in. Now all our jewelry and watches (even my reps) are kept in properly rated safes, the main one is 155KG and needed to be installed by a specialist team to get it upstairs! Hope the payout is ok
