dave47 6,487 Posted June 14, 2017 [Hi, Gang! This tonight is a "two-fer Tuesday," because I received two "cheapies" in the mail from Amazon -- one of which I'll wear tomorrow, the other, a SKMEI chronograph for $19.95 from Amazon. I acquired this (plus a few others on the way) because I was very much inspired by this thread on Watchuseek.com (a.k.a WUS), entitled "$20 or Less, let's see them,: here at this link for your convenience: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/20-dollars-less-lets-see-them-936070-30.html. I was introduced to several inexpensive and good looking watches -- all for under $20 so I thought I'd give them a try. The SEIKO was worn for the first part of the day, 'til early afternoon; then, the SKMEI chrono was strapped on. First, the SEIKO: The SKMEI chronograph and its variants were profiled a lot on the "$20 or Less" thread, so I chose this one on the black with yellow stitching "leather" strap. The face has very readable features and date; the case seems to be machined very well but doubt that it's stainless steel. The watch head measures a very health 46mm wide (w/crown), 14mm thick, and weighs in at 67 grams.. The strap is, meh, not exactly leather but does have a signed buckle. The lume on this is pretty decent (photos to show this), but the watch movement, supposed to be Japanese (I haven't looked yet but will do so tomorrow) is one of the newer ones I do NOT like --viz. the large yellow seconds hand ticks constantly, and the working chronograph functions are confined to the three small subdials: 1/10 of a second (top), chrono seconds (bottom), and accumulated minutes at Nine; the subdials DO reset to zero but take a little time to do so. It has a 30M water resistance that confines you to splashs of water. So far, it's worked out fine and tomorrow will calibrate it with the atomic clock at www. time.gov. Pretty neat pick up. This WUS thread introduced me to a whole new genre of watches that I really wasn't aware of -- save for my INFANTRY watches: cheap but rugged beaters. dave: SKMEI CHRONO: lume shot:

dave47 6,487 Posted June 14, 2017 UPDATE on the newly arrived inexpensive SKMEI Chronograph watch I showcased last night. The ad stated a Japanese movement. Today, I popped off the case back (a "pop off" case back, not a screw down one) and discovered a SUNON PE90 quartz chronograph movement, which apparently is a popular, inexpensive chrono movement in Asia, according to this article I discovered on the Web: http://www.thewatchforum.co.uk/index.php?/topic/106580-the-%C2%A313-tenth-of-a-second-chronograph-unlucky-or-not/. The SKMEI watch is operating quite well but as this article points out, it's not built for the long haul. I'm OK with that. SKMEI chronograph watch:
