Watch Cabinet Project

Recommended Posts

Thommo82

So as my collection grows and my watch boxes are full I got to thinking about a more custom style watch cabinet.

Then I found this tucked away in a corner at work.

IMG_8578.jpg

Dirty as fuck and complete with broken door, however it takes a lot to discourage me, so I took it home, cleaned it up and fixed the door.

IMG_8580.jpg

Three shelves and two drawers which should hold 10 watches each totalling 50 watches.

Gotta fashion slots and felt line everything but it should be fun bringing this piece of wood to life.

Ill update as things progress

Yup, any thing else would look a little circusy.

Just make sure you hide them to only produce a glow, of course. You can get some of that 90° clear plastic hardware stores sell to protect wall corners, paint it(may need to trim it down to 1/8" height)and double stick tape it around the inside to hide from seeing the LEDs.

Thanks mate, that's a good idea to hide them. I'll be doing that.

Though it was filthy I saw it's potential, and it's only half way there

50 watches ? That's not gonna be enough ! You might want to look if there are three or four more at your work ... ;)

If you want to go with colour (RGB with remote would be the best choice) LED I would have chosen a more neutral felt, black or white.

Nice project !

Decided against the lighting

Went with the green felt as I used to play a lot of pool and you know, it just felt right

You're right if you don't felt like it or maybe you were struggling to figure out how to make lightning works inside this cabinet then it struck you... :chewbacca:

Bit more fucking around with this thing tonight. Got the slots made up for the drawers. Tedious bloody work but I'm pretty happy with how it's going

Gotta get the top shelves on an angle for display purposes, then figure out how I'm going to make the slots for them as what I've done for the drawers won't work for the shelves

Gluing the felt to everything is going to be REALLY fun me thinks

Don't forget to make the slots in the foam a little bigger before you add the felt.

If your shelves have the height go with transparent  'C' Stands

A row of watches all angled the same will out stun those lay down cushions (I reckon you should get half a doz on each shelf)

Then if you really want to show boat your watches, a mirror to the back of the inside

;)
