PBR is the reason I stayed.  He's like an enigma. Omnipresent if you will... some say he doesn't have a reflection when he looks in the mirror and that he's afraid of ducks..

As someone who has worked in  IT and SysAdmin for a long, long time.... I'm sad I never heard that until just now... Damn.

Same - I'll attempt to pull it off at work in a meeting with the dev/uat team tomorrow.

RWI
How can people need such a long time to set up the forum again?
And no, it is not a "free" forum, they were making substantial gains with VIP memberships,  which they were advertising all the time. The cost to operate a forum, even when it is very big, is not very high, I know it.

As it seems, chances were given, that crackers have stolen your password, this is very bad, never heard of sth. like that before.

Most likely, I will be at the forum with  most members and most traffic, topics and so on. If this is not RWI in the future, I will not be very sad.

Are you a VIP member?

Can’t come too soon for me, get rid of all the moaning bastards who’ve whined their way over from RWI.

JEEEEEEZ

It was an elaborate RWI plot to get rid of them - worked out pretty well.

With all this talk of Alaska - and what people are saying - I'm imagining you as one of these guys...

You know fuck all, mate. Running a forum of this sort of size is not even remotely cheap and RWI is even bigger than this place.  You're not going to run a forum this size on cheap shared hosting, y'know...

As for 'substantial gains with VIP membership' that's completely fucking laughable.

LOL to all the hate. Yea this place may not be as active as RWI but its still a solid place of refuge and puts a roof on us for now. I will be sticking around for sure after but taking part in both equally

You won't make a lot of friends with a post like that cause it proves that you haven't done a lot of reading and you only rely on your feeling and limited understanding of the subject.

It's a free forum because you don't have to pay anything to use it, but you could help with the cost and time associated with maintaining it.
Clearly you haven't owned a dedicated server able to handle a forum this big, otherwise you would know the cost associated with it, is on the high side.
The "cracker" hasn't stolen a password, he managed to find it and if you've never heard of that before that doesn't mean it's a rare thing.

And your last sentence is not a very pleasant one for people here on RWG, I go where I found quality not quantity. RWI is much bigger than RWG but I enjoy RWG better even if this is quieter.

Reading my post again today, it was well over the target, sorry for that.

My statement regarding costs for running a big forum:
I financed my studies (CS) with webdesign, still look after some sites for my clients. From financial view, RWI was on the safe side at the end. 3M visits per month, 200$ for enterprise hosting are sufficient. You would need only 60VIPs to finance it. RWI  has 140k members.  For big sites, you calculate new IPs per months, not visits, but this calculation  is just a rough direction.
In my perception, RWI left a commercial taste, but who am I to judge.  Actually, it was never about who earned how much, I should not have opened that box.

I think it's fine, when some people earn a bit for offering great value. After I read that poor statement on forum.replica-watch the thirtieth time, with no help, other than advice how to create a safe password, it ended in writing an emotional post.

Sorry, if it has offended some people, that wasn't my intention.

C'mon  greg-r  you've been around long enough to know the mantras:

Forum owners bask in a life of chauffeured Bentleys, champagne and escort girls off the back of their  benevolent memberships

&

The whole Guangzhou rep industry exists for (and kowtows to) the whims and wants of these members

Like I said, you know fuck all. Nobody is 'earning a bit' out of running RWI.

Here at RWG, VIP subs barely cover our hosting (and related) costs. Any surplus we make (and it ain't much) goes back into prizes for our birthday bash. I am not privy to RWI's financial status, but I can tell you that the owners/staff aren't making anything out of it. You may have done a bit of web design, but you have no bloody idea what you're talking about.

Whats going on in some Heads....?

there is no need to sign up for money on RWI. You can always do this from your own will. All Info‘s you need are for free...

For me it‘s a honor to subscribe as supporter because i got so much help from the Forum. without RWI i would probably  wear Canal street reps or boring gen’s and have learned zero about watches....never met some good Persons from the Forum who i appreciate high for theyre work!

We should show some respect here and appreciate the Work which the Staff and Admins do for us.!

True story  !!!

Last time I stopped by The Ritz I saw Greg and TB in their Bentley's ... one for each of course ...and they were throwing caviar off the windows saying it was not fresh enough.

What a pity :Hmmmph:

BTW ... let me think about it ...

Perhaps that was not The Ritz but The Savoy  ?

not "Greg & TB" but "Abott & Costello" ?

Perhaps that wasn't even me stopping by ?

Nevertheless ... it's a pity

Or perhaps it aint a pitty ?.. Never mind :D

Just wanted to ask ... "Who has the best chauffeured Bentley ?"

I dont really understand why people are arguing with each other.

If you don't want to answer the guys post, then just move on. It doesn't need 10 people to say the same thing, and another 20 people to start shit talking.. Surely.

I think there is nothing wrong with RWG in anyway. I like the cooler interface and chilled out attitude on here.  I don't mind any of the forums as long it has enough information.  Personally speaking when I first started to search rep watches 5-6 years back, I got result for RWI and I registered and never looked back. I soon realized there are other forums but never registered on any of them. I didn't even check if RWI was the biggest or smaller among other similar forums. Just stayed with the one I found as I'm not huge rep person, I buy once in a while few watches.  I registered on RWG after RWI went down and they put this link on the message board. Now, I'm exposed to this forum, it looks very cool and nothing to complain. The only thing I noticed now with RWG is that it doesn't work on Tapatalk. My work blocks both RWI/RWG and such forums and I always browsed RWI on my smartphone but now am restricted hugely and I don't like sitting on laptop once I'm back home. That to me is the only difference, traffic and all is secondary.

Just use your normal browser on your phone, it works fine (at least it does with Safari/iPhone).

The only true part in this is that you have probably financed your studies with web design.

I do professionally, with other things, not only web design but everything web creation related and for this sort of load a 200 $ server won't really do it.
You calculate new IP per months ? What's that sorcery ? You calculate a load, if I come on the site 150 times a day and spam the refresh button each time after cleaning my cache, I generate a bigger load on the site than multiple new IP only browsing a few pages.

Anyway, you have apologies, that's a rare thing around here.

I honestly wouldn’t give a shit if the people who ran rwi made a lot of money. It’s a FREE forum. If enough people saw the value in the forum as to upgrade to VIP, more power to them. I personally hope they’re doing much better than just making ends meet.
