manodeoro 19 Posted September 6, 2018 I can't stop reading that thread @NCRich my friend ... you know what ? though I hate those 20/40/60 twin subdials I'm on the verge of ordering one to mod it. The more I look at that quartz and the more I think it could become a "not too bad" vintage Omega Speedmaster Reduced Look at the comparison pic below ... - Right is a 3510.50 circa 1991 - Left is ... you already know that one With a little work (you know what I consider "little") on the quartz dial and supposing the one I order comes with a Miyota OS20 if I'm happy enough ... I really think it could look like this at the end of the journey a REALLY BETTER comparison pic And YES I KNOW that the subdials @3 and @6 are reversed but I think it could be a nice watch
GingerApple 7,285 Posted September 6, 2018 It is a nice looking watch in photos, but the once-per-second, quartz, tick tock of the seconds hand makes mine unwearable for me.

Indeed but ... an Omega Speedmaster Reduced for about $50 Another idea could be to try to fit a Miyota 6S21 in that quartz case if there is "free space" enough Then we could get a "sweeping" chrono second hand as the 6S21 ticks between the seconds. That movement is a "2 eyes" only but is has some really interesting specs : 1 - the small second subdial is @3h00 2 - the chrono minute hand is @9h00 3 - the positions of the 2 subdials @3h00 and @9h00 are exactly the same that those on the Miyota OS20 EDIT : Stupid me !!! 0S20 ans 6S21 specs show different positions of the subdials @3h00 and @6h00 6S21 subdials are 8.6mm from the center and 0S20 subdials are 6.8 mm from the center This means that the dial coming with the watch cant be used for that build with a 6S21 and a custom one must be built This means too that the final result could look more Genlike 4 - same dial feets positions as the 0S20 So ... imagine : 1 - small second @3h00 - like the Gen 2 - chrono minutes hand @9h00 - like the Gen 3 - no chrono hours hand @6h00 - forget about that cause we can have that small hand fixed 4 - not handwind (quartz) - same as the reduced that is an automatic Think I'm gonn follow that track @NCRich my friend would you be kind enough to give me some infos about your quartz speedy : 1 - size of the dial opening 2 - size of the dial seat and if you could take time to check if a "15 lignes" movement can be fitted in the case or if it will need some reworking on the lathe Edited September 6, 2018 by manodeoro

Thanks Rich ... fun indeed ... and the only way for me to wear a watch wich has twins 60 subdials but you already know that don't you (sorry for that again) As I stated in my post just above I think we could mimic the Reduced a little better if we can fit a Miyota 6S21 in the case. - small second @3h00 ... "as per Gen" - chrono minute hand @9h00 ... still "as per Gen" (I love that sentence) - central chrono second hand ticking between the second (I'll have to check that) so closer to the Gen The dial coming with the quartz watch could be modded as the subdials on the 6S21 are placed just like the ones on the 0S20 THE problem will be to fit a 15 lignes movement in a case which is supposed to receive a 13-1/2 lignes movement ... that means 3.3mm more The caseback would be inacurate but who cares ... plus as I'll probably have to rework the case from the inside to fit the 15 lignes movement I will try to source a snap caseback (as per Gen again) that would fit the reworked case EDIT : what I need at first is the dimensions of the dial opening and the dial seat on the case with those informations + the 6S21 specs that I already have, I can work on the design of the future dial and possibly build one from scratch EDIT 2 : if I want to use a 6S21 I MUST build a custom dial, with subdials 8.6mm from the center Edited September 6, 2018 by manodeoro
gmchris 68 Posted May 23, 2019 So thanks to the inspiration in this thread, I decided to have a go with my quartz Speedie. I initially fitted an acrylic crystal with some hypo but there were 2 problems. Firstly, I could see the glue through the crystal - little bling diamonds around the edge. Secondly, the stainless rehaut that was hidden by the mineral crystal distortion was now blatantly obvious, like lookin down a dustbin. So the answer I found was to black paint the bottom face of the crystal before gluing in, and also paint the rehaut. Here it is (with some not very well painted indices and hands. 1st attempt. Are you asking how to freeze the chrono hand on the cheap automatic?

jcagara08 31 Posted July 19, 2021 Yes I am referring to the ticking main seconds hand at the center hand stack, for those cheap speedy reps from AliExpress. Not the sub dial seconds hands which are ticking too in some other rep versions.Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
processengr 13,365 Posted November 18, 2022 @NCRich Another question on your quartz vintage moonwatch assembly; when you glue the SK crystal to the bezel with GS Hypo, do you just use small spot drops to secure it, or the entire diameter? Going to paint base of crystal and rehaut black as recommended.

Going to paint base of crystal and rehaut black as recommended. Answered in email, but: I'd actually use UV cement now. I use that for all crystal stuff and cyclops now. Its easier to work with since it doesn't dry until you expose it to the sun. I have been putting several drops down and then spinning the plexi to coat the whole thing. If you just use drops you can actually see the glue after it dries. Plus having it all the way around is water tight.
