bensi 0 Posted June 3, 2018 Hi, I'm looking for purely aesthetic watches to wear with suits. I don't care about and will remove any obvious branding. The watch doesn't need to work at all, it doesn't even need a clock face or mechanics, just the initial appearance of the form of a watch. I'm struggling to find resources or places that can help me in my search. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
greg_r 83 Posted June 3, 2018 Every jewellery shop on the planet has dozens of cheap gens that will fit that brief - you don't need reps for that purpose (if there is one!)

Have you considered a tattoo that looks like "the initial appearance of the form of a watch"? Failing that psychological help...

EBB 25 Posted June 3, 2018 So do you want something that's flashy? gold? there's some 18kt vintage watches of random brands reasonably priced

Navy blue with silver accents for the face. I'm not sure what face shape or strap width I'd like though.

Essentially a pretty shell. Incongruous. Reps exist because they rep branding, using lesser quality materials. As per greg_r, there's no shortage of gen watches that won't require pesky debranding. bensi 0 Posted June 3, 2018 Reps are interesting because there's flexibility in design that larger companies don't have. There is a price premium one pays for branding. Quality is not binary.

Quality is not binary. Actually, reps duplicate the creativity of gens but you are right that they are able to take liberties with fantasy models. Check Invicta. Too much flexibility some will say. Some members here have unearthed great buys on eBay.
bensi 0 Posted June 3, 2018 Thanks. Once I figure out what I like I might look to commission something. Are there any groups who would take requests or modify existing designs?
myaz 3 Posted June 3, 2018 Modifying is part of the fun on this and other fora....For sure, the fun of buggering a cheap watch is not the same as buggering an expensive gen. Modifications run the gamut from aging/distressing watches, reshaping parts such as crown guards, refinishing surface textures, painting/printing dials, swapping parts (often installing gen parts) to 3D printed watch cases. You might be a little premature requesting modifying existing designs until you appreciate what is realistic, save yourself and the modder the bitterness of unmet expectations. Then there's always the crowd funding approach to producing your own design. Good luck with your search, sounds like a worthy endeavour.

It’s still a bracelet if it doesn’t actually tell time. You should investigate sterile watches. They have no branding but usually actually function. Might I suggest a quartz and just remove the battery. It won’t work then.
