DEEP BLUE DAY-NIGHT RECON 10TH ANNIVERSARY TRITIUM 7750 VALJOUX CHRONO T-100

I WAS THINKING

With all the money I have spent on replicas, could I have just bought my one watch. The one genuine watch I really wanted. But, what even is my one watch I would want. I needed to find out. Cuz if it was a Rolex, well, then the answer is no - I can’t afford that. But, could it be something genuine, but cheaper?

THEN IT HAPPENED

I went away for 2 weeks. Camping. In a forest. I was close to civilization, but every night I was in the middle of the woods, with no lights, no power and just my phone. And my bike. @acyclistnamedgeo  Follow me on Instagram

I had a can of bear spray. I had an air-horn. I had a rape whistle. And I had lube. The rape whistle is a replica so it’s just for show.

The lube was real though. I’d heard there was a bear in the area so I was ready for anything. Anything.

THE DECISION

But before I went - I had a HUGE decision to make: What watch would I wear? A two week trip. What would be the most important part of this decision? And I chose the only one that made sense - my Carnival Tritium watch. I needed a watch I could see in the middle of the night, or anytime really when there wasn’t any light.

THAT DECISION MADE IT EASY

That let me know - what my ultimate genuine watch would need to have. My genuine watch would need to have tritium tubes on it. Absolutely. And my Carnival were T25, so I wanted T100 on my genuine watch. But I wanted it to be skookum. Thats Canadian for The Balls.

THE SEARCH WAS ON FOR THE BALLS

I was dead set on quartz. At first. But ultimately, I was seduced by a higher power. No. I wanted an automatic. But a real, Balls automatic. Swiss. Swiss Balls. Cuz they won’t interfere with anything.

During the day after my rides, I could get to a shop with free wi-fi, and I started researching on my phone between Pornhub visits. But only incognito tabs. Remember, always use those in Chrome! So, I researched a lot. I’d ride my bike for 6-8 hours and research the rest before going back to camp. A few names came up:

Armourlite - The Isobrite Executive was a good start.

hv6lmr.jpg

I looked at Nite watches. Nope. Although lovely.

2cyqxxs.jpg

Traser. Nope. Not my style at all.

30hraya.jpg

Ball watches. I really like the Hydrocarbon series. Hmmmm. Maybe.

2zq4k8l.jpg

Then I was looking at Deep Blue. They have some nice…

wisvh2.jpg

What the hell? What is that? Yes. That - that is the watch I would love to have.

2duid8o.jpg

It tugged at my heart strings. The ones you feel in your loins. When you know you’ve found your perfect mate. Juicy time.

Like when we, as humans smell vinegar and our mouths start watering, well I saw this watch and my cock started watering. Weird how we get that too huh?

IT HAD EVERYTHING I WANTED

Tritium T100 tubes. Day and Date window. Chronograph. Screw down crown. And a movement that rivals anything I bet any of you could make after burrito night and moms house. And looks. To me, it was the sexiest bitch standing on the corner. Could I afford it? No, not really. But I will buy it. And if I need to sell off some replicas, so be it.

PS. I can’t afford the real life sexy bitches standing on the corners either.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

There were only 200 of these made. And out of those 200, from what I can tell there were 3 different colour choices created.

Have a quick look here to see them, and read a little bit about them. It’s a quick read. Fantastic photos.

https://oceanictime.blogspot.com/2017/07/deep-blue-daynight-recon-valjoux-7750.html

SO I…

Found that obviously these were sold out. Therefore I started looking used. I wanted the black dial. It didn’t take too long, and I found one for what I think is a fair price and pulled the trigger.

I received #82/200.

Eighty Two. Holy ….. You see what I’m talking about right?

82 divided by 200 = 0.41

I was 41 4 years ago.

41+4=45 That’s my current age.

Holy H-E-Double hockey sticks! What are the odds I’d get the 1 watch out of 200 that was actually destined to get to me? Well, I guess if it was destined to get to me, the chances were 100% I’d get it. But still, That’s Incredible - and if that tv show was still around I’d be on it… That’s… Incredible!

CHAPTER I - GETTING THE WATCH

It felt weird to not have to wait for a watch to arrive from China. Not having to wait weeks. Months. And, to be buying a genuine watch. Sure, I bought a Seiko recently, but don’t spoil this for me. So, I had to walk into the US of A to pick this up. Yes. I walk. I never take a car there any more. Long story. Long, sad, “You’re on the watch list for 7 years” kind of story.

Fuqn cars. Again, long story, but, I did get a sweet assed knife out of it. Hard to explain without having guys in black suits knock on my door, but, while it was a horrible time, I did get a cool knife. But to be clear - I did not steal it from the Border Patrol agent. Let’s just forget this whole thing. I think he was trying to tell me something when he left it under my seat… Or trying to set me up for next time… I am in dangerous lines of wark so… You never know.

Well. This chapter sucked. Sucked like a Dysan. That means “Sucked good” in Canadian.

CHAPTER II - THE UNBOXING

It comes in a small plastic case. Included was the instructions, the limited edition card, spare links from the bracelet on the watch, and entire spare bracelet, and even another new spare clasp and a keychain.

CHAPTER III - THE WATCH AT A GLANCE

I knew about the thickness of the watch. Ultimately, I figured this is going to land in the zone of a DSSD, my Seiko SUN059, and a big assed Invicta. And I’m ok with that. I love a weighty watch. This is a manly, thick watch.

1zg57bb.jpg

Here are some photos of my watch doing just normal, every day kind of hanging around…

CHAPTER IIII - THE BRACELET(S)

I had to remove two links and it fit perfectly. When I did I found that this bracelet has a type of screw I’ve never come across before. It’s the one where you need to use a screwdriver on both ends and the one end pops off.

256r0n6.jpg

The bracelet is 22mm and I have no complaints. It feels good, it’s quiet with no squeaks or rattles and suits the appearance of the watch. However at 45mm case diameter I do wish it was 24mm. Still, it’s all good.

iop1ew.jpg

33d8c9c.jpg

2cdhibs.jpg

The extra bracelet is identical, as well as the 3rd clasp. I thought maybe they were different styles but no, just spares. Can’t hurt - good for resale value too. Those pesky desk dives be damned!

CHAPTER IIIII - THE WEIGHT

Ok. I knew this would be heavy, but, I didn’t know it would be this heavy. It’s good though. I can see why cavemen liked carrying clubs. It’s the weight that makes you feel like a real man. I’ve been wearing it non-stop and love it. I’ve mentioned before my wrist shape. Very flat on top and bottom. This allows this watch to sit on the top perfectly and not roll over the sides but for a bit.

Here are all my diver watches in order of weight…

10elvfo.jpg

2hmdlae.jpg

sz8xts.jpg

2hx4o3m.jpg

CHAPTER IIIIII - THE CASE

Solid SS case, brushed. No polished metal to be found here, which is kind of a relief after all of the Rolex watches I have.

34e5jsx.jpg

Crown has much more texture than any of the other watches I purchased before. And it screws in nicely. Deeper than most, or maybe all watches I’ve had, and really tight. Being that this is rated for 500m that might be why. I bet you thought I was going to combine ‘screws, deeper and tight’ from the previous sentence. Ha. So did I. So did I…

2iie96u.jpg

The pushers are simple enough. They act with a stiff click.

21ex6jl.jpg

The case back is nice and contains some important information.

2e0qonk.jpg

So we have that it’s sapphire. Swiss. the serial number 0082 and 500m

2l972jb.jpg

On this photo, while you can’t see the serial number, you can actually see it says mb-microtec H3 - that’s who makes the tritium tubes here and are regarded as the best in the business.

Check out their website, some neat stuff if you look around: http://www.mbmicrotec.com/en/

CHAPTER IIIIIII - THE MOVEMENT

a9v9fc.jpg

A Valjoux 7750. My first real, genuine ‘high end’ movement ever. I would love to open the watch up and have a look but I won’t. I don’t want to ruin the water proofing, and take the chance of corrupting anything. This is as close as we get… Which is just the photos from the case back again! Ha so lazy…

2e0qonk.jpg

2l972jb.jpg

It’s currently running about +5s/day. I verified this using my phone app I use for all my watches, and by setting to time on an internet site and checking after 24 hours. Acceptable.

One interesting thing. I can barely hear the 7750 ticking. But, when placed against my phone it was the loudest, clearest results I’ve ever had before.

The chronograph. This was… interesting. You see, all I’ve ever heard about ‘7750’ on this forum is how they are delicate, prone to breaking, etc. Of course, that’s talking about the replicas. But, it takes a mental toll after a while. I have to admit I’m worried about suing this although all reports on the internet say the Valjoux is basically bomb proof.

I started it a while ago while typing this review and just remembered about it so here it is in action

Here we see it’s been running for: 23m20s

14j6hhl.jpg

When you’re done, after pressing Stop - when you press Restart it’s just instantaneous. Those little hands must move at the speed of light to reset themselves it’s that fast.

CHAPTER IIIIIIII - THE BEZEL

Your standard diver bezel, essentially. Hash marks from 0 to 15 etc. However, instead of a pearl at 12 there’s a micro tritium tube. The bezel has 120 clicks, and I gave it a good work out. Clicks solid. Not hard and gummy, and not loose and easy. Just right. Loose and easy can be good though. Yeah. Totally. Unless it’s your asshole.

vngpe9.jpg

It’s a more subdued take on the bottle cap edges.

33uddok.jpg

All of the paint on the bezel is actually Superluminova. Which is great. For a while. Still, better than any other diver I’ve used that doesn’t have this feature. What’s the use of ‘platinum’ paint if it doesn’t glow? It’s freaking dark when you are diving!!!

20b1zeg.jpg

CHAPTER IIIIIIIII - THE DIAL AND HANDS

I love it. It’s not quite glossy, not quite flat. All of the print is tight. No saggy edges. No sloppy runs. Obviously one of the main draws is the tritium tubes. There are 64 on the watch. 60 minute markers, Hour hand, minute hand, chronograph second hand and 12 o’clock pip.

2yxrmg7.jpg

107qus0.jpg

The hands are really cool, and actually remind me of Tie Interceptor wings from Star Wars. Well, that’s what came to mind when I first saw them… Maybe not so much now.

2zz6ff7.jpg

Day and date are good, legible and easy to read. They start to switch over at around 10:30pm.

CHAPTER IIIIIIIIII - IN THE DARK

This is where this watch shines! Errr… Glows! (That was so weak, even for me) There’s no words. My first night with this watch, waking up at who knows what time - and it’s just so bright. I was in love. And that’ important when you lay down mad cash on a watch. You want it to make you keep wanting more of it. This watch does that to me.

aot068.jpg

2zfrfq0.jpg

35hquk2.jpg

Here’s the Deep Blue T100 with my Carnival T25. The T25 is dimmer, for sure. I’d say T100 is worth the investment.

33bmgwm.jpg

kchrmt.jpg

r08arp.jpg

CHAPTER IIIIIIIIIII - THE VERDICT

It always comes down to the same thing for people who don’t have a lot of money: Is the money I spent - worth the return? And what is the return you’re actually looking for anyways? And how much is it worth? Is your return based on how much investment you’ve put into this item, and are expecting a returned investment proportional to the money you don’t have? Maybe.

In this case, the answer for me is yes. I did hesitate to order this. Because of $. But, ultimately, I find it handsome, sexy and the perfect watch for what I need, and what I want. Will that change in the future? Maybe. I don’t see me ever though not wearing tritium tube watches. I just can’t go back full time to something that runs out of light power so fast compared to these.

Will I still wear my other replicas? Good question. I need to wait and see. Why wear a replica rolex, when I have a genuine diver that I find more attractive, has more features, and is water proof?

As I’ve said - this IS a bigger watch. But that’s what I prefer. I like the weight, I like the size. I love the girth. Mmmmmm. Girth of steel. Plus - I’m able to pull it off. Cool guys always can.

Girth Of Steel - Ha that sounds like a Metal band!!!!

n3szue.jpg

Still. I will hold judgment on my other watches for now. I want to open my watch case in a few weeks. Or a month. And how do they make me feel? Can they, or will they ever compete for wrist time now?

Will I end up selling some replicas now? I am not going to rule that out.

Do I really just want this one watch, for every occasion?

Can this watch be that for me?

I will follow up in the summer.

This is a very nice watch, even to my tastes ! Thanks for the review !

And you seem more passionate about it than any other review you ever wrote, so you must really like it !

I've never thought about asking you to check the HYT H5 watch, in terms of novelty and lume, this is pretty good too (but a bite more expensive, just a little ... :D )

Beside the precaution of usage mentioned in your documentation and on here, you also have the possibility to get it repaired easily in case of problems, since it's a gen and not an Asian copy ;)

Yeah. It's rare I go out for a bike ride - and I can't wait to get home so I can shower and put a watch on! Kinda weird....

That's a good point, and something I thought about. So, it's really comforting to know there would not be an issue at least taking it to a watch repair shop as far as gen/rep 7750.

It's nice to see some more micro brands popping up around here. All my past Deep Blue models were excellent in terms of quality, so I can only imaging what their "high end" models are like. Unfortunately, I now have this on my list, which is bad for my wallet :D

Love the lume on the bezel and dial markers. A 'real' luxury  Valjoux 7750 chrono movement .... Way to go .... buddy!

Yeah, I've read nothing but good things about them from everywhere I looked. The only thing I ever read, and it was kind of funny cuz I think the guy was serious, but apparently this guy bought a DB watch from Amazon. And, it had obviously been purchased before, abused, and returned to Amazon and resold to this guy. It was kind of funny all of the 'quality control' issues that he was complaining about. I'm pretty sure he was serious and didn't know it had already been used but..  regardless - lots of positive vibes about DB.

When I saw the bezel, I was surprised that it isn't done more on dive watches out there.  It just looks really sharp - especially when you just come in from outside and going through the house where it's a but darker, the entire watch looks pretty cool. Dare I say - futuristic!

It's a great shade of blue. I didn't like that it had blue tritium though. But - that's only because I had my heart set on black dire, with green. Still, they're all nice looking. I'd have no problem at all with all 3 variations :)

TWO WEEK UPDATE

Well, had a chance to go live in a forest again, this time only for 1 week. It's such a fantastic watch. Of course, the tritium 100 is superb. One night, some animal was being killed - probably by coyotes and I was able to tell immediately what time it was from looking at the watch. I didn't have to turn my phone on, and give away my position and risk attack. Kind of serious. Coyotes in packs seem to draw out the deer up there and it all just kind of freaked me out a bit.

And there are bears - and if you've seen the movie Annihilation then you know what I was worried about.

Regardless.

Massive forest fires in the area, so on some days there was pretty decent amounts of particulate and ash floating around while the entire place reeked heavily of smoke. So, nice knowing this thing is water proof - and thereby - won't be letting any of the smoke in either. I guess. I don't know. It seemed cool at the time.

Wasp nest about 100m up the hill from me I came across. Thank F they left me alone and I got the hell out of there. But, totally could have used the stopwatch on this to time from the time I got stung (if I had) until I'd be dead since I didn't plan ahead on this sort of thing.

Waterproof. Which was just nice to know when at the lake - never had to take this off out of fear of it drowning.

So.

Overall - Very happy with this. It's the only watch I've worn since I bought it. Have not been tempted to pull out any of my replicas.

Will update after the summer to see if that's still the case. If so, -I might just be having a M2M dump then of lots of stuff that will never be worn again...

Fantastic breakdown and review, due to the fact you seem to have contracted and moved into 3rd stage syphilis with the leaking knob issue from all the excursions into Pornhub, can i please have my name added to the last will and testament off @McGilli  as the recipient off this watch , hoping your knob falls off sooner than later, cheers Brent

2 month update

I've been wearing this watch - every single day for over 2 months now.

Surprisingly - I've had a lot of fun with the chronograph. So much easier than having to pull out a phone, and open the stopwatch on it.

Did more camping where the T100 was perfect.

It's too thick for a dress shirt though, so that will need to be taken care of by means of another watch for dress occasions.

I pulled out all my TD purchases the other day. I tried on the Rolex SD, wore it for an hour around the house - then put it away with all the others. Not interested. Just doesn't do it for me. Still contemplating a fire sale on all my TD purchases because of this watch. For now though, happy to have a nice looking, small  collection.

I've seen this very watch, in the blue dial, and the white dial for sale on Ebay recently. Was so tempted to get one of each colour but... Nah..... Just this one.

So - the report is that I feel I have gotten my money's worth with this watch and no regrets spending the cash on it.

Stunning! Tritium just rocks!

As someone who has fallen for the joy of tritium tubes, the Deep Blue watches just blow the competition away.

I recently forked out for a Ball Fireman Glo - that went back as it barely glowed at all.

I now have a Marathon CSAR that again - whilst great build and looks - is only a T30 so barely glows at all.

The hunt is now on for a Recon chronograph! Please give me first refusal if the love ever wains on yours!

Why do Deep Blue do such short runs of great looking watches??
