INCOMING: OM Factory Royal Oak Chronograph. Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

FoxWilde

Just got an email from Andrew at Trusty Time showing off the prototype of the new OMF Royal Oak Chrono.

Haven't heard too much about this one lately. But I'm really impressed by the new dial. The old style subdials really steered me away from having an interest in these models.

Thoughts?

Great improvements in finishings. I dont mind faux Chronos but the Thickness is too impressive

I was looking at this on Puretimes site earlier this morning, and was really impressed with it.  So much so it could be a contender for my collection.

I have two ARF Daytonas' so the faux chrono doesn't bother me as I never use it anyway.

Ignoring the thickness for a moment, how can they get so close and, yet, still miss?

And on such easily fixable things.

Can someone explain the excitement?

The case is a chunky monkey.

The date when is off.

The bracelet, which I feel on the gen is a work of art is the wrong shape.

I’m sat here like  while you’re all :fme:

Case is waaaay too fat for me. It looks like it’ll sit really high OTW.

I’d like to see a few wrist shots though, before I completely write it off.

tbh, I’d probably prefer a quartz movement (shhhh) in a correctly sized case.

Hate to sound like a broken record but:

"they have decided to use the Asia 7750 Valjoux but do away with the functions on the 3:00 & 9:00 subdial. The main chronograph needle at 12:00 still can move. Seconds subdial at 6:00 is functional like genuine 1:1."

Great, one out of three on subdials lets them claim 1:1, more like 1:3 to me.

Here's their picture of the thickness compared to gen. OMF has some slimming down to do

Seriously - give me a VK quartz driven AP chronograph with realistic thickness and attention to details and I'll buy one in every dial color.

Why did they strip the chronograph subdials of the 7750? Id be interested if the subdials work. Id rather have a common 7750 seconds-12hours-30minutes that works.

Probably to prevent the "sunken dial" problem of having a A7750 with all the subdial working in that configuration

Hmm...Can you replace the movement of this rep with a standard 7750 with working subdials? Id take working chrono over accurate datewheel personally.

The older models have a 7750 working chrono, but the subdial spacing was way off. These APs have really tight spacing..

The standard layout of a 7750 is different from the layout of this watch.
You'll have to have a modified A7750 to make it work, so no can't replace it with a standard 7750

Here the regular layout of a 7750 :

There's a very instructive post about it made by an estimate member of this board, here

Gen is only 11mm thick, so any 7750 will never work.
