First Rep 1675 received

Recommended Posts

ClearSea

Received my first Rep today, a 1675. On the website of the TD the bezel looked different (at least better then this one)  I am not going to flame the TD here because I looked back on the QC pics and there was the bezel with the watch as I received it. So it was my own beginners mistake of  agreeing with the QP. My question to all you knowledgeable people here is how I can install the right Bezel. Been looking on eBay but these are only 'fit' for a genuine bezel. What I read here was that the BP bezel is is slightly smaller then the original fit and that it wil not go together. My watch is from BP factory.

Then one more question about the bracelet. I thought the side was also brushed and not polished, can someone confirm? I would like to instal a jubilee in the future. Seems on this bracelet it is very hard to remove some links, the screws are very tight, maybe the suggestion of a baby oil bath (for the bracelet that is...)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

On the riveted style bracket- changing links takes three hands. Because you need to hold two screw drivers at once. One on each end. It’s kinda a PITA but worth the pain.

Also I think some AP bracelets had a similar design and someone was selling a “helper” for removing the screws

All you need is a new bezel insert , ask the TD to sell you one as you accepted QC pics.

I already did, but he charged me a whopping 48USD, so I will look elsewhere and shop for my reps somewhere else too next time.

Clearsea, what is the exact problem you have with this bezel?

Probably find a better insert on ebay...can shave it to fit.

Vintage rivet bracelets have polished sides

Hey bro, you definitely got an incorrect insert for the 1675 GMT. Have a look here. The 4 and 5 digit inserts have the same numeral font, the 6-digit insert font is completely different, and is what you have on yours! Look at that ginormous triangle on yours at 12 o'clock, OMG.

4 digit GMT inserts:  https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/ref-1675.htm

5-digit GMT inserts:  https://www.chrono24.com/search/index.htm?query=16710&dosearch=true&searchexplain=1&watchTypes=&accessoryTypes=

6-digit GMT inserts:  https://www.chrono24.com/search/index.htm?query=116710&dosearch=true&searchexplain=true&watchTypes=U&accessoryTypes=

I am an insert addict with a gen 5-digit GMT and I've never even seen an insert like that one before. It's a 6-digit font, shaved to fit in a 4-digit bezel, it must have been a special buy or something for the factory but it is oh so wrong. You can buy aftermarket inserts for 1675's, just be careful because many vendors do not know what they are selling and will claim their inserts will fit multiple series (4 and 5 digit, or 5 and 6 digit) when in fact they are all slightly different sizes. While you CAN shave an aluminum insert, it's not really something you want to have to hassle with and it's easy to ruin an insert. Ceramic inserts cannot be shaved, at least not DIY, in my experience.

Take a look at this post for some more info about insert sizes

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=119682

It looks to me like yours should be this size. I would get a digit caliper and measure to be sure. You may have to try several inserts and send the ones back that don't fit.

1. Ref 1675(1675/3)..16750/1675x...(Plastic Crystal).

Physical Dimensions:

Overall Outer Diameter....... = 37.7mm (+-)
Internal Diameter............ = 30.0mm (+-)
Width........................ = 7.7mm (+-)
Thickness.................... = 0.6mm (+-)

If it were me, I would try one of these:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BEZEL-INSERT-ALUMINUM-FOR-ROLEX-GMT-PLASTIC-1675-16750-16750-6-16753-16758-BLACK/310304825586?epid=1231425932&hash=item483f9be0f2:g:ZGIAAOSwFuZbROax:rk:7:pf:0

Or if you want Fat Font

Thank you for the reply. I ordered the first type bezel from ebay. Also ordered the tool to shorten the bracelet.

Cool, lay the new insert on top of the old one when you get it to make sure it's the right size. You will likely need some help getting the old insert removed, just post back with questions. There are a number of different ways inserts and bezels are attached, but we'll help you get it sorted out.

So today I received the new bezel, was the same size as the old one so thought it would be an easy swap. Was not a problem to remove the old ring and pop out the bezel (was stuck in there with just two pieces of adhesive tape?!, I hope the new bezel would also clamp in there but when I tried to swap the other bezel it would not clamp in. I am probably doing something wrong, so any help will be highly appreciated. Do I need to glue it in? (read somewhere you have too) or is there some trick to get it stuck in. In the pics below are all the parts.

Good job. For future reference and for others, you can buy double-sided tape rings made specifically for adhering inserts to bezels. The adhesion is very strong:

I have a ghost bezel 16750 pepsi from 1983, and this 1675 with the black dial/bezel with the red hand has always been on my radar ever since I saw it.  I can see myself picking it up at some point in the future.  Just gotta figure out what to sell first :lol:  I have a 12 slot watch box and it's a one in, one out rule I have in place.  I hate letting watches sit for more than a couple weeks before wearing them.

I am sorry I made you go for the bottle.....I posted this question with quite a few pictures and no reply whatsoever. Did the search and found out the differences in bezels. Don't intend to change the bezel insert anyway, sits fine and will never come off again...
