Omega PO - Too good to be true?

Recommended Posts

dmcn

I saw this PO on ASIAKRONO - a 45mm automatic for $98. I know the site has a good review on RWG, but this seems too good to be true? I assume the movement will be a little jerky - not as smooth as the real thing (I own an invicta diver 9094 and assume the movement would be a similar standard to this?).

I also read a review of the 'ultimate' Planet Ocean - I'm guessing this is not it? Is there any way to know which 'generation' this is?

I'm obviously a noob so all help is appreciated!

OK, first - this site is NOT on our Trusted Dealers list, and it's for a reason.

Second - the HE valve is in wrong position.

Third - I'm not sure about ceramic bezel, for $98??? I doubt it.

And fourth - yes, it's cheap 21j movement, that doesn't sweep.

And fifth - no, it's very far from Ultimate.

No, you are correct that is Lawrence's new name and website. Luthier is just cranky because he didn't get his nap today...

D'oh! Pay attention at the back.

The site IS on our trusted list - it's Lawrence's new site - formerly house of souvenirs.

But yeah - that PO is just a cheapie. It's a decent cheapie and fine if that's all you want to spend, but you can do a lot better if you pay a bit more...

Thanks everyone!

So the consensus is that it's crap?

(The 21j will still sweep, right? It's just not as smooth?)

Can't call it "sweeping".

6 beats per second is quite visible "ticking", but most of us are quite OK with it.

Other flaws on this watch is much worse.

I bought a 21j, 45mm PO from Narikaa earlier this year and it cost me £68 / $110. It's nicely made, keeps great time and although somebody with a solid knowledge of gens would spot it as a rep almost immediately, it looks pretty convincing to everyone else. I don't really care, coz for £68 it's a bargain however you look at it.

As far as I'm concerned, if you want a rep which looks as near as dammit identical to a gen, you need to buy a gen.

Dmcn, the 21 j is fine as long as your buddy next to you doesn't have a higher beat movt. Although cosmetic, for the most part, its worth you spending a little extra to get a better movt. I say this because I now wished I had a better movt than the 21j in my bell and Ross.

Well, there can be no doubt about being crap/cheap. Look at the bezel (for instance the inner rim ob the bezel in comparison with a gen or ult) and the "pearl", the minute hand is too short, the position of the He valve, the shape of the valve, the engravings on the back, no serial number. If you want to go cheap you can find much better reps. The 6 bps is the least obvious sign that it is a fake.
