I’d rather not find out and regret it afterwards.

If you really want to swim with it, you should first get it tested for water resistance by a watchmaker (we are talking about a rep right ?)
You shouldn't have any damage by swimming with it, after you're done going into salt water, rinse the watch with clear water to remove any salt residue :)

There's a lot of advice on here saying get your watches tested prior to swimming...

Personally I disagree, just risk it it's only a toy watch FFS.

If I paid to get every rep I've ever owned waterproof tested I'd be in for over $1000! That's just on waterproofing and testing fees, postage to and from watchmakers etc.

My total losses from getting untested watches wet.... $50! Yes just $50 in my entire rep ownership, one 21j cheapie that failed and was subsequently scrapped.

Just use your brain if it's a high quality rep and everything looks aligned and screws down tight chances are it'll be good for a dip in the pool or the sea.

Absolute worst case is it leaks, a new ETA clone movement is $50ish rep dial and hands maximum another $50 just do the math and chose your gamble! Eother pay for the testing and spend money you ain't never getting back, or don't... But ignore the naysayers and actually make an informed calculated decision.

That's really interesting. I've always followed forum advice and stayed the fuck away from water (because I'm too lazy and tight to get them tested). Has anyone else got a more relaxed attitude to water? If so, care to share your success rate?

Same!! Yet to bother testing a rep or gen, only ever wore gens in the sea/swimming pool, all tested by jumping in.

Never understood. The test doesn’t guarantee nothings happed to affect the water resistance between the test and your aquatic adventure.

Fuck knows. Old forum mantra - don't get your watches wet unless you've had them tested.

Yeah, well, I bought a Bergeon 6 bar tester off ebay ages ago for £120 or so. I use it to test. It's easy enough.

My grey SeaWolf has always passed and the yellow one leaks a bit round the crystal. So I know what leaks. I don't do much swimming but I have taken the grey SeaWolf in a wonderful seawater infinity pool a few times. I freshwater showered afterwards and it's been fine.

There's no decorum round here any more.

I'd be more concerned about the salt water tarnishing the metal.

Why would you want to swim with a watch that wasn’t made for it,you only invite trouble.zget a decent Seiko ,do wahat you want with it and wear your other for slurping beer and impressing fools

The watch I was referring to is a genuine Rolex.. I was concerned if the salt water would do any damage to the gold or the watch itself.. I would up load images but I they don’t seem to load up

Gold is a pretty inert metal and doesn't interact with much of anything.  Hence why gold that's been on a shipwreck for 400 years is still sparkling when it's brought back to the surface.
