Another labour of love, Glaude.

I found it an entertaining read, especially this bit:

So does pretty much everything on the movement in the rep. So if you stumble on a Patek movement specialist and if you allow him to look at the movement, and see him raising an eyebrow... be sure to let him know that you bought this model in Australia...

:D

Special touch for the Aussie friends ! Glad you liked the review ! Thank you for your comment :)

Patek Philippe, started in 1839 with the association of Antoine de Patek and the French watchmaker from Czech origin François Czapek.

Wow I didn't know Czapek was involved. Is this the Czapek?

Your reviews keep getting better and better. A source of reliable information and inspiration to improve my own reviewing. You sure are keeping the standards high!! :thumbsup2:

A lot of the information will be useful for my own series of chicken shit Nautili

(Should we call it a Nautili ? Where is my spaghetti ?)

I see my obsession and overuse of that term has rubbed off on you

Forget it then. I was going to buy one - but - with that kind of lying where they try to pawn that thick, chunky shit off and say it's thinner than it is.

I'm starting to think that this whole replica industry is based on cheating, lying, and deception.

Thank you Glaude. You have saved me from making a huge mistake! I'll just send you the money instead.

Wow, huge amount of work into this review!
Very good one and even if I still like more my BP one (no fake plate movement and a different tone of the dial which maybe it's not 100% correct but I love it), this is a good example of a well done rep!.
Thanks a lot mate for your work here

Hmm, 5711/1a on leather... Normally I would say it’s sacrilege and if you want a Nautilus on a strap you should get a grey dial 5711g, but it can’t be any worse than putting a gold Daytona on a purple lizard skin strap can it ?

Thank you very much, my friend !

That's the beauty of those reps, you have a variety of dial variations to choose to find the one that suits your liking !
On this version it's not a fake plate but they decorated the Miyota movement :)

I think I'll keep this one on the bracelet and grab a 5712G-001 from the Gate to put on leather.
Not my style for the purple lizard, but I can't say that this doesn't suit the watch well (and goes well with the arm tattoos ;) )

The shame is that they could have done sharper engraving and without mistakes on it (I'm sure this release was done in a hurry after some info on it leaked on forums and people pestering TD for having one).

If you look at the quality of the fake plate of the Kurvasit version, this would have been perfect :

Serious review here. I have been ogling the 5711 for a while now. I have two cheapies and i have been listening to all the expertise and I still have not jumped. Funny enough I am a bracelet freak and this review has helped my a hell of a lot to trade up my two cheapies. Thank you so much @Glaude

Thank you my friend, I saw your lurking around in various threads at RWI for the 5711 ;) I figured this was worth a tag in this review :)

Glad you enjoyed it ! The goal of the review is to allow people to have all information in hand when deciding on a purchase, a lot of those info are also helpful for another 5711 rep to gauge if they are worth the money in your eyes

Speaking of 324 movements, @Glaude

what do you think of ZFs new take on the aquanaut?

http://www.trustytime.club/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=39_200&products_id=19359

By the look of it, it is the same deco plate on top of the Miyota movement than the JJF and Kuvarsit version. Accurate, but add a bit of thickness and possible rotor sound issue

This is a truly fantastic review, and anyone interested in the Patek would benefit from studying this.  I have been enjoying Glaude's reviews.  They are not only incredibly well researched and well written, the photos and the side by sides are great.  Just what any enthusiast needs.  DC has been my go to Patek mem for many years, and still would be, but this comparison answers alot of fundamental questions mems may have before they need to ask another for input.  DC's comment about the colour was noted in his remarks.  This is a great review and reps are never 1:1, but can be close, especially to the eye, if not the movement.  The review anticipates what a reader should know,  and be aware of, even if a reader doesn't yet know or what to ask about a rep.  It doesn't get any better than that.  This allows a prospective purchaser to do alot of QC assessment on their own in order to form an opinion and make an informed choice.    Glaude's reviews are outstanding in that they anticipate the need to know of another.

Another stellar job Glaude.!  Your comparative analysis  would save someone hours of time in research.  I like looking and researching, but time is a huge factor.   I am trying to catch up on things I've missed in this hobby, and you are helping me know what to look for and where, since I last looked.  Your reviews are consistently awesome and all of them should be pinned.  Well done on an incredible and much appreciated job.  Looking forward to your other reviews already published which I haven't yet read.  I have certainly enjoyed the reviews I have been able to read thus far.  Great work!  I know it was a labour of love.  :cheerleader:

Thank you so much.

Your serious efforts and attention to detail always make for a very interesting read. Thank you@glaude for another very detailed non fiction watch piece on the replica and the genuine. Always find the details about the genuine article of more interest. My replicas are simply a nod to the real deal and regardless I’m too cheap and lazy to pursue great replica accuracy. With my reading glasses off, each and every one of my reps is a dead ringer. Great photography as always.

Caveat on accuracy. One thing that does grate, with relevancy to this article, is dial colour. Knowing how much effort goes into colour choice and the complexity of translucent colours on a metal substrates ... well anything other than black or white can be unpleasantly wrong even without the reading specs. My Omega seamaster aqua terra being a prime example of a dial colour that always annoys.

Thank you so much Aren for this wonderful comment, that I truly appreciate !

You nailed my goal with those review, even if they are wordy and long, I try to offer a synthesis of a specific rep at the time of writing. In the end, if you trust me, you save time and you can forge your own opinion based on some facts. You can even come back to the review after digging deeper and separate the facts that I wrote from my personal impression of the rep :)

Thanks again !

Funny that you mention dial accuracy and colour, I've just added a new question in the FAQ section, about the dial colour and how cautious one has to be when it comes to comparing gen vs rep only from online pics :)

Synchronicity that’s what that is my friend.

He’s my life experience tuppence. Excuse the ranting nature but I’ve dealt with colour comparisons all my life and computers have only caused me professional pain in my perfectly formed arse.

I’ve never been in anything so technical as the watch making industry but my working life has been spent in creative industries starting in graphics ( hated it and was shit at it) and moving into prop making in films and tv and later years in film related events still on the making side. When I started out in graphics computers were almost non existent. Magic markers and Rotring pens - bleed proof pads - art board and grant photographic enlargers. Colour was all specified with Pantone swatches and clients approved everything from hard copies either biked over or from visiting the offices. Similarly when I started in the film industry everything was hard copies and Pantone references many other paint swatch references or actual paint mixes and affects painted by hand by artists and approved in the flesh by designers. Computers soon became the biggest pain in the arse for getting approval on colour and form. The inaccuracies of reproduction both via camera lenses (distortion) and the total inconsistency of viewing colours on any screen became and remain a constant battle with repeat explanations and relentless stupidity of clients whom increasingly were not designers and had fuck all creativity. ‘It doesn’t look the same Ben’ ‘no that’s right of course it doesn’t you talentless twat your a fucking marketing moron who’s looking at it on your fucking phone’. Colours cannot be compared on 3D objects with any accuracy via a photo and viewed on a digital screen. Flat colours for print can be compared on calibrated screens but photos of 3D objects viewed on digital screens fail on so many levels and issues that it’s entirely pointless trying to assess colour accuracy. Simply it has to be seen in the flesh. That said some colours are glaringly different but I still wouldn’t trust it until it’s in the flesh even two objects photographed side by side will have different light and shade on them. It’s not accurate.

Despite being tagged, I somehow missed the party until now.  It may be due to thinking I'd landed on Patek's website rather than the RWG forum?   This is a pretty amazing effort even by your standards!  Starting to think you might be a 'mole' from PP here to investigate piracy and intellectual property infringement?  You simply know way to much about this to be a mere mortal and not some sort of Patek lifeform.... hmmmmmm.

Seriously, it was a great read; technical but still interesting - and your photos are getting even better.  I never really 'got' the  Nautilus 5711.  It just never pushed the right buttons with me.  Not in the way the original Royal Oak did/does.   And to be honest, I still don't feel any desire to own one!   But after reading your review, I have a newfound appreciation and respect for it.

Just be careful amigo.  If you keep this up you'll turn the membership in to a group of educated and thoughtful people.  We certainly can't allow that to happen...

Great job!  Cheers and Happy New Year!
