TRANSPORTER

Well for abit of fun I decided to tear down my gate speedy, nice watch running a quartz, full details can be found of where I bought it etc etc in the VIP area where you will find the Ali/DH Gate sub forum, if any of you that aren’t VIP members nows  the time to subscribe and support this forum. Right enough preaching on with the pictures

First off the wrisr shot before.

Just didn’t like the chrome style hands, didnt see them in the sellers photos.

FFBE588-D-978-F-40-DC-AA06-538-A9-C7-CD1

Back off and a standard but bombproof VK63 movement

B5-C9-BBAF-EC67-4-FDB-B5-A9-9296-F48-C74

Even a gasket on the screw down crown

And one in the tube, nice touch for a cheapie

And the movement hides a date ring.

Dial pre spray, it’s not too shiney but I thought I’d give it the once over anyway.

Hands off ready to be worked on, de lumed, and rubbed down.

Dial drying after a couple of passes with the Matt spray.

The next few photos are of the hand work. First off is the lume being picked out before cleaning and running down. I had a nightmare painting the hands, first off with my fine brush nicely loaded with paint but the finish just wasn’t there. Then I tried an oiler and thinning the paint down so that it flowed smoother for a better finish, still wasn’t happy. In the end I sprayed them, I got a much better finish, but I’m not 100% happy with them so they will be coming off again to be re done. These pictures are of the hand painting.

and this one of the new lume applied.

535-D5-F29-C1-F9-4386-B472-C85-CC17-CC08

Dial nice and dry and relumed and ready for refitting

Back together again, like I said I’m still not happy with the hands, but for now I can live with them as they are. The sub hands I had to use a tiny amount of thread lock to keep them on the pinions.

And you can’t  finish a job with out the obligatory Lume shot, I’ve used luminova lume on this as I found it so much better than the crap off the bay or the Bergeon lume, luminova glows all night.

not too shabby for a few hours work, longest bit waiting for things to dry.

Cheers mate, naked eye it looks great, under the loup the lume is a little lumpy in places and the paint finish on the hands isn’t the best.

For the money I paid for it it’s well worth it for a daily beater, thinking of putting a plexi in to maybe finish it off, but I do like the AR on this crystal.

Nicely done mate!

Lume seems a little bit wonky but only noticable in your macro shots...

You're saying that it has a VK63, so your watch has a Sweeping Seconds Chrono Hand and Reset like a mechanical watch, cool!

I guess you got lucky with that....

Mine has a Miyota movement that means Ticking Seconds Chrono Hand

No I’ve still got a ticking seconds at 6 and an hour counter at 3 the sundial at 9 is an hour counter for the chrono, the actual large centre second hand sits still at 12 unless chrono is working when it ticks around.

Mine too about the Subdials..

I'm talking about the Big Seconds Hand when the Chrono function is engaged.... In Miyota ticks(1tick/sec) whereas in VK Sweeps(about 6ticks/sec) it's a Microstepper...

Looking at mine it looks like it’s about 6 per sec, definitely not one tick per second.

Nice:thumbsup:

I wonder if the Miyota is interchangeable with the VK
