Gents,  a reminder to please keep it friendly in the flame free zone.

OP: Welcome. To answer your question we are here because we love watches, most of us have a mixture of reps and gens. Personally I like reps as I can try styles / brands without spending too much - I bought and sold over 50 reps which I would not have had the budget or inclination to do with the gens.

BTW, know your audience, if you want to impress people who know about watches there's many affordable gens around, if it's only about the value then there are indeed good reps (e.g. PAM 111s, Rolex Subs, etc.) but be careful about pulling it off as it could backfire big-time. And if you really want to impress somebody? Wear a Casio calculator watch and tell everyone you are saving for a deposit on a house.

Never ment to upset people lol.

Didn't know this forum actually had genuine watch collectors/lovers on here.

To be fair I don't know much about Seiko or what makes it so good. I'm really surprised people on these forums love them.

I don't really get it to be honest, you guys seem like real watch aficionados so why would you want a fake that has Rolex on the dial?

I want to do it to fool others ( sad but honest here :'( ) not really for my own pleasure...

Why not buy something like a Steinhard?

I don't really think you upset people that much, but your questions are revealing some preconceived ideas about replica watches that may annoy some of us ;)

You'll find more watch enthusiasts and specialist on rep forum than on gen, people are here not because of the status but because they like watches, no matter if they are gen or rep.
Some of us will just scratch the hitch of big brands and then turn to other gen alternative, some of us will still continue liking rep forever.
Of course there are alternative like Steinhard, Citizen etc... but we don't lie to ourselves, we like the brand name and what it represents and how it's part of the design but we don't try to fool or impress anyone, we just like it even though we don't want to spend ridiculous amount of money on it, some are worth the money they cost, most of them not.
I like when people don't believe that it's a fake watch because it looks so good, but I never try to pass a fake for a gen, I just like to wait for a reaction and tell it's a fake afterward.

OP, clearly you care nothing about watches and only about status symbols. Buy that Rolex. Be that person. You know its what you always wanted, you're 23 you've made it, you deserve it, what do we all know, most of us are just old fuckers who failed at life.

Or, you know, do what all the other trendy kids do and buy a Daniel Wellington and throw a few shots up on insta, it won't really matter as you don't know anything about watches anyway, as shown by your utterly ludicrous comment about Grand Seiko.

Maybe Mazz might appreciate it a bit better...

Honestly, just buy whatever you want, you're only here for one reason, your very first post set that stall out very clearly, so buy what you want and enjoy your life, this is not a hobby you understand or have an interest in so why bother. Just buy and go, the defining action of your generation

He didn't deny it, which is, in my opinion, a good thing, now he knows our position and that he can learn more about watches here than anywhere else he would have thought.
I think he'll end up buying and just go, but at least, he discovered that we are not just posers in here

The name of this forum is Replica Watch Guide Forum and I came here for guidance in buying my first replica watch.
Help me understand what I said that was so wrong?

You are right about the status symbol part, I never denied that, but why does it matter what reason I want it for?
Personally, I don't understand why someone would buy a replica for any other reason,
my dad used to have a Steinhard and it looked just like a Rolex, so that's why I asked about why not to buy one instead of a fake...

Sorry if i upset you lol

You got all the guidance you needed right away, you didn't say anything wrong, but you ask for help although you already got it ;)

It doesn't matter for what reason you want it for, it's your money and your life.
How about buying a replica of a watch for those reasons
- Can't afford the real piece but won't stop at that, you like the design and in the end, it just tells time
- Don't want to pay full price for just a watch but like it nonetheless
- Have the gen but don't want to destroy it in some day to day activities
- Gen isn't possible to get anymore due to being a limited edition, out of stock, waiting list too long
- Gen isn't worth the price asked regarding the quality offered

My last advice would be : go for a brand that you are pretty sure people around you won't know very much about

OK I understand much better now, many thanks to elp & Glaude for the explanation.

I've decided I'll just save up for the real deal. I've seen this Breitling on chrono24 for about 2000$.
That's a lot of money but I think I'll go with the gen, besides, a good replica is like 500$ and I'd feel weird about spending that much for it if it's  only 2000  for a gen.

Thanks for all the help & self reflection guys!

Cheers

Everybody is to thank because everybody was pointing you in that gen direction right from the start, we saw right away that you weren't fit for this part of the hobby, as you aren't really after watch for what they are, but for what they represent, so I think you found the right way of doing things, you'll be much more comfortable with a second-hand gen around your colleagues

Dag meneer, tot de volgende keer ;)

Also, borrow your dad's Steinhart when you can. It's a great brand (I'm biased, see my signature)!

Good luck in your sales career.

Well that was one hell of a watch therapy session forfakequality. I think you’re probably right to save for a genuine watch given what you’ve said. The saving and the journey will teach you something and hopefully invest you with a passion for all watches. I’ll pull you up on your Seiko, however. You father bought you a fine timepiece in the classic Sarb033. As a great watch and a gift from your father - you should wear that watch with nothing but pride.

You got this mate. Owning a gen feels great. Saying it’s gen feels great.

@JCC1968 - create your own thread if you want to discuss your watches. I also wouldn't put my email in clear text, there's bots that will harvest for spamming purposes.
