Gold watches with "Stainless Steel" markings

Recommended Posts

They make this extremely SUPER STUPID mistake over and over and oooover again, and over again!!!
I can't imagine how stupid a human being have to become, to impregnate / emboss  (rather laser-etch like most unfortunately are doing) the continuous STAINLESS STEEL in gold watches. I see this happening year after year, and I am in this rep business for almost 10 years.  No one is buying that crap, but still the idiot's continue to manufacture it.  It  pisses me off real bad.  It appens all the time... you fins a beauty, a real super rep, everything is 99,9¤% perfect on the watch, to the last screw... and then you look at the marking and find this SS marking allover the case and/or bracelet.  Last year a bunch of super high end rep's is out there, and 75% of them in gold have these f***ing stainless steel markings.

To make a blueprint and then complete the watch  consume a lot of time, we are talking weeks or maybe months of work for a whole team of 5-10 people to make a watch really good. Like the best AP's Patek's and Rolex's for example. A team is working on the watch... a glass expert, a screw expert, a  case expert, a polish expert etc etc. How is it possible that the whole team miss this extremely important detail; THE MARKINGS????

As far as I'm concerned you have to a complete f****ing idiot to put 100's or hours of work on a watch, make it super beautiful and perfect to the last screw.... and then make these f*Ä**ing stainless steel marking on a 100% gold watch. This pisses me off so bad that I get aggressive (because it's beyond stupidity) and want to scream these idiot's in their face "WHAT A F**K IS WRONG WITH ALL OF YOU IDIOTS AT THE FACTORY?"

Here are three watches I adiore and I would like to buy them to keep for myself... but I can't because of these f***ing SS markings

Wrong marking, or totally missing marking (also an incredible stupid mistakes over and over again, and ton's of watches never sold because of that)

No, the Daytona is platinum, all Rolex's with an ice blue dial is always platinum. You can't buy a loose ice blue dial either, they come only with a full platinum watch.

This

‘Precious metal’ reps will always have their weight as the immediate tell. So the markings are a moot point.

deju...  Not one single person I know  would even consider buying a gold rep with stainless steel markings. It looks completely ridicules and its a giveaway in 2 seconds even to a schoolboy (keep in mind not all people tell others its a rep).

And beside that..., that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the stupidity! How can a factory owner invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a business, make everything 99.9% flawless, and then over and over again for 10 years make the same stupid flaw when the TD's keep telling them to stop doing it (because no one buys it).  What's the point of buying a high end rep for $500-800 USD when it's a giveaway even to people who knows nothing about watches?

Gold reps a particularly suited to the sort of customer who doesn't even know what stainless steel is.
Buy a Portofino or something thin with a leather strap and you won't feel the difference.

Do you not get that even with gold stamping the weight is an instant give away?!

Perfect everything even gold markings and you will still get called out on the weight!

Gold watches are Heavy.

But you’re not talking about that :sigh:

So to discuss just the markings only because that’s the most important part.

The models with ss cases that are gold are because the factory are not going to pay more to make  another watch case they take the SS case in bulk  to lower manufacturing costs and plate some to make gold version. .

Because the markings are on the back and if some one has it in their hand the weight has given up the game before the markings on the back.

So from a business point of view it is not stupid.

It’s cheaper.

It’s  more cost effective.

It’s good business.

Who cares if you wouldn’t buy it or I wouldn’t buy it. It’s supply and demand.

If I make the only gold replica of a watch model and I inscribed the back of it with waffle cock edition. If you wanted a gold replica of that model you would have to buy it. So why do I need to change it.

This is the grounds for why we don’t get true 1:1. They control supply, demand is massive. Low to no competition.

The Chinese “it will do, Gweilo will buy it” business model lives on

I'd have to take the watch off my wrist for said schoolboy to even see the engravings... so there's that.

It's a stupid move when you are a nitpicker customer ? Yes

Why did they do it ? deju said it well, manufacturing cost, they are not making a product for your pure enjoyment, they are just making a product to sell it, and it does sell well, so I guess it's more my type of friends who don't care about little discrepancy from the gen that are the buyers and not yours? ;)

Is it important ? No, the good ol' 99% won't even look at your wrist and in the 1 % that will, only 0.1 % will notice that something is perhaps off (and most certainly not based on the look but on their modest knowledge of the price) if there's maybe 0.01 % that are in capacity of knowing enough to call a fake they will not need marking or weight to spot other problems and I personally don't hand a watch to someone for weight and marking inspection without telling first that it's a rep ... If I even do it as @fatarms said
