Plating on Reps - Quality?

Recommended Posts

bananakid0

Hello,

Currently in the market for a new watch (IWC Portuguese 7 day - zf v4) which I prefer in plated.

Question is: does plating last on reps? I get it is plated and will come off eventually; but if that is in 20 years I don't mind. Would appreciate any experience you've had.

If I can wear it 1,000 times before this starts to take effect, it's no big deal - but if it's more like a couple months then that is!

All down to how you wear it, the climate where you wear it and if you sweat more than others.

So many factors in how long it may last. 2 members could buy the exact same watch and find the longevity completely different.

A gold watch isn’t an every day watch IMHO

I've found over the years they hold up quite well. That said, not sure if there is really any real gold in these reps.  Even the $700-900 'wrapped' gold.

So what is the difference in "plated" and "wrapped"?
