Can anyone advise the best way to either buy or build a Military 5513 or 5517 Submariner with no date and the sword hands with the T symbol and the solid lugs etc

Thanks in advance

Depends how much you want to spend and how indistinguishable from the gen, and how good your modding skills are.

Ill break it down into basic catagories-

1- get a cartel case and do the basic mods, age the dial/hands, fit athaya crown etc. These cases are entry level, crown in the wrong position

2- Helenarou case and dial, will fit a 2824 so crown position is better, dial is better (debateable) source movement (eBay) bracelet (rafflesdials) etc mod same as no1

3- Vietnam sellers like Rubyswatch, will sell you all the above, they will even build it for you but cost is much higher.

4 Try find gen parts from Rolex forums and eBay etc, they do pop up occasionally but cost is crazy high.

5 Then there’s parts from  yukiwatch, site speaks for itself really.

http://m.yukiwatch.com/index.html

this list is not exhaustive, parts from some are better than others, also depends on your own skills.

The best advice is to sign up to the sister forum RWI, they’ve got a ton of build info there.

Any questions just ask and I’ll try to answer.

Good luck pal :D

Maybe it was too indepth, far too much info when just one link would do.

AND marvellous rep is about 30us cheaper than Mary for the same rep, you can cure bacon but you can’t educate pork

Thank you so much for all the info, I cant decide weather to just buy a complete replica or as tomatohead fred kindly advised how to build an aged rep with nice patina. Or I guess I could just buy the cheap (228 dollar) one and age it myself carefully > I am very grateful for all the advice I promise you all

sorry it was pickled beetroot with the in depth info who i should be thanking

Sorry if these questions seem stupid or have been asked a thousand times before but here goes

1. What movements are compatible with the 5512/5513/5517

2.Are there clone Rolex 1520 movements out there and are they better than the 2824-2 or 2836 ?

3. What is the biggest hurdle out there in either getting a very close to the original watch in patina condition, I am certainly not interested in selling this watch it just a case that I love this watch but cant afford it, It probably has something to do with the fact that I was offered an original 5517 in 1985 for £500 and was only 19 at the time and didnt know what it was, My friend who advised me to buy it did buy one and subsequently sold it at Christies in 2002 or 2003 for £65,000 . but its not about the money I just love the watch and that the SAS were issued with them.

4. any tips on ageing or patina to dial and case an bezel and where can I get either a clone 1520 movement or even a real one , or just general thoughts ??

Is this what your looking for mate?

I too am after a Mil-Sub.  (Or a big crown James Bond!)

Is the one on Mary watch the same as this one? http://www.silix-prime.es/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=115_158_226&products_id=1832

.  And the one on Marvelous Replica?

There are a the cheaper ones with the 2813 movement. But the better ones seem to have the Asian  2836. Does nobody do one with a more correct lower beat movement?
