Franksie 0 Posted April 27, 2019 I have several decent Automatics, however I tend not to wear them all the time and setting them can be a pain. Is there a decent 'day to day' Quartz that someone could recommend?
GenTLe 1,501 Posted April 27, 2019 A day to day watch must be something resistant, so a sapphire crystal should be considered. There are not so many quartz with sapphire around crystal. Give a look to the Dan Henry line. I have this one and I love it: Now there is also this which adds 50m water resistance and is a complete one with even the alarm:
deju 1,870 Posted April 27, 2019 Tonnes of awesome quartz watches, rep and gen! Many Cartier / Tag reps that are quartz in gen too. Really depends on your style and budget (as there are quartz super reps too)

BadApple 13,081 Posted April 27, 2019 I joined the rep scene to come away from quartz - give me a manual / automatic any day of the week. Regarding expensive quartz gens - they are a rip off when they are an empty box full off printed circuits and a £5 battery. Just sayin'
Rx4Time 1,472 Posted April 27, 2019 This is the one quartz piece I have in my collection. It's got the same Swiss Ronda movement as the genuine.
NCRich 13,746 Posted April 27, 2019 I like all watches and quartz is dead easy. Here's what I have. If I had to have one quartz watch it would be the Bulova Moonwatch. Unbelievably nice microstepper. Couple of modded Gate quartz speedies Gate Daytona modified Gate Snoopy with a bit of modification Gate bullhead Omega Gate Darkside Gate TT Speedy Gate Tudor Heritage Chrono Tudor Cartiers Heuer Vintage Seiko Gen Bulova moonwatch Gen Bulova Marine Star Gen Stuhrling
RussP 22,182 Posted April 27, 2019 Fabulous quartz collection there, Rich. +1 for the high frequency Bulovas.
elp 26 Posted April 27, 2019 Nothing wrong with quartz. I have a lovely Bulova and a couple of Seikos that are just dead easy to pick up in the morning without setting. You're spoilt for choice really ....
Master Vader 0 Posted April 27, 2019 You might also want to consider a Seiko Astron, they are incredibly advanced with solar power, satellite and GPS location, so you don’t even need to bother changing batteries nor setting the time. And most of the references available look really good too.
Automotiveromance 1 Posted April 27, 2019 Solar watches are awesome, I have an Orient solar chronograph that I wear regularly.
Theviking 197 Posted April 27, 2019 (edited) +1 on the bulova moonwatch sweep like an auto, accurate like a quartz Edited April 27, 2019 by Theviking
splke 4,382 Posted April 27, 2019 I have a lovely quartz tag chrono rep and also a seiko but the best is my bulk a uhf military with sweeping seconds it's awesome.
stevok2305 1 Posted April 27, 2019 Have the same blue/white Tudor Heritage chrono myself. Love it.
GingerApple 7,281 Posted April 27, 2019 I just can't do quartz (except microstepper/smooth sweep versions). All of these watches look lovely in the pictures above, but as soon as I see the awful quartz tick in real life, it totally ruins it for me, I don't know why. Can grab Sub £1000 beasts of quartz, this has better lume than my Pam! Some expensive Quartz have great provenance and a place in watch history

You could but more goes into making a genuine ETA and they are traditional which is where I'm coming from.

Some ETA quartz are extremely complex and have a lot of mechanical parts in addition to the quartz parts. @deju example is one of the many examples of the brilliant quartz available ! Some JLC quartz are work of art ! But I'm like @DefinitelyNotGingerBubba, Can't stand the tick, so must be either no second hand or smooth sweep

Master Vader 0 Posted April 27, 2019 I also totally prefer a sweeping second hand, but there are some really good quartz movements around. And I understand what the OP wants, something that you can just put on the wrist in the morning without having to think if you need to set the time and date. As the above gentlemen I’m totally for automatic watches, but it doesn’t hurt to have some quartz lying around for when you need one.
Piccolo 673 Posted April 27, 2019 Buy a GS Spring drive... that’s both and neither. I would pay a lot of money to have a really nice Dead Seconds. Extra money to make an auto “tick” like a quartz...
