Should have just popped the pearl out when the bezel was how you wanted it. Most old subs have lost the pearl anyway

True, but the missing pearl look is something I absolutely hate, whether in Gen or Rep - it's just not my cup of tea.

That looks really good.  You made it sound like you ruined yesterday

What temp did you bake that at out of curiosity?

Phew, glad I didn't say anything. I thought GB stood for Ginger Bollocks. I ducked that one!

I'm a lucky sod!

Re temp, I didn't finesse the cooking part, but it was pretty high. Probably 225C

On a more complimentary note, I do like your touch of accidental genius. It does kinda grow on you :)

I genuinely would were it not for the fact that you don't like wearing watches that have a different name on the dial to the true maker. X

Looks good to me. I’m just gonna miss the drama and cursing going on in the SB the past couple of days. Thanks for the entertainment!

Beautiful work @GingerBubba, but I thought your goal was a rustmariner? Use one of @NCRich's tamiya kits,  and borrow some Pacific seawater and organic apple vinegar from @hanski

I’ve found that you can do this with one of those small torchs (the type used by chefs). This can get you a nice even color or slight color shifts from light black to brown. Perfect for a tropical dial.

Are you talking about dials, or inserts? The rest of this thread is about ginger inserts.

But it also works on the dial. And I'd reckon the pearl too.

I wouldn’t try that on a dial. Paint on brass works a bit different than anodized aluminum. The paint would just bubble up.

Thanks for clarifying, I thought you meant you'd turned a dial tropical too - I follow now.
