1ST MOD EVER- USING ELECTROPLATING MACHINE

Recommended Posts

BADBILLY

Image result for dr Frankenstein's laboratory image I have decided to post a thread using my DIY Electroplating machine for my very first mod.

The subject will be my beloved "DeepSea" Sea-Dweller aka "D"-Blue !!

I will post pictures and give a detailed description of my work( the process), for anyone to see how this project goes.

The dismantle process has begun already. Case back is removed and the Crown. Movement is about to be removed.

I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish to give the watch band a bright shine before the plating. Going to use 18k Gold.

I actually really like it now too.

What metal/colour are you plating it?

Haha posted just as I was typing

Sure it will look pretty good if you get the plating process right,  someone here had a homage in bronze and think the company also did a gold DSSDalike

So the watch is almost dismantled here, going out to the garage to rustle up an old hockey puck (bezel removal tool).

Hey folks this is the Deep South, we tend to make our tools as we need em.

Don't want to scratch the case when removing the bezel.

Yes, I have the plating process down pretty good now.  My hemostats are in 24k Gold now.

I'm subscribed... Interested to see how it turns out, I've got a plating station in the garage but I only do zinc on car parts. I'm assuming the process is similar, could open up a whole new world of car bling to me, haha.

Yes, it's the USA. Deep South.

Great Grandparents emigrated here in 1860 from Europe. Did the Ancestry DNA thing.

Ouch! The bezel is probably held on by a tight paper clip spring. Try heating the insert with a hair-dryer and removing it so you can access the spring from the top-side.

Following this for the amazing plating exploits, I wasn’t expecting this horrible turn of events! Bad luck Billy, as HorFan says, best thing is to get the insert out which will get access to the spring.

I damaged 2 cases with tightly fitted bezel assemblies before I discovered that...
