Omega Aqua Terra Rep vs Gen (old wave dial) comparison

Recommended Posts

Hi all, following my 300m comparison at the weekend, figured I'd do another one on my Aqua Terra.
Similarly, this is not an in depth review but more a comparison so you know what to expcect if you opt for this watch.
Presonally, I prefer this version to the new "horizontal" dial, which is why I got the gen (actually, it was a wedding gift from my wife, but of course I picked it ;) )
Gen is on the LEFT always. Both came on the stainless steel bands, but I've been rocking the gen on the leather strap as think it pairs perfectly.

From the TD website:

Name: Aqua Terra 150M SS 1:1 Best Edition Blue Textured Dial on SS Bracelet A8500
Size: 41mm x 12mm
Movement: Japanese MIYOTA 8215 automatic movement decorate to Omega 8500 movement
Functions: Hours, minutes, seconds and date display
Case: Solid 316L stainless steel case
Crystal: Scratch-proof sapphire crystal with AR coating
Dial: Blue textured dial
Bezel: Polished stainless steel bezel

1. View from above

Straight away you can see the similarities/differences. For me, main differences - colour of the dial, and the "pointyness" of the batons.  Dial pops more on the gen and the gen batons come to more of a point.
Similarities - handset looks perfect on the rep to my eyes, case shape/finishing is perfect on the rep.

2. 9 o'clock from above
Nice profile shot. You can see the rep is a little more reflective - the gen saphire glass seems to just vanish! I think the bezel on the rep is just a touch thicker.

3.  Low view from 6 o'clock
View into the dial - clarity of both pieces of glass are well shown here. Gen batons are slightly deeper, perhaps? First time i've noticed that!

4.  View from above from 7 o'clock
Showing the difference in dial colour again, otherwise both look pretty similar.

5.  Side profile from 3  o'clock
Showing the lugs and case finishing from the side, as well as crown branding.

Conclusion
I think when reps arrive, most of us are disapointed when we start to realise the shortcomings/differenes when compared to the gens. For me, I was aware of the differences in this watch before purchasing so all in all pretty happy with this one. Biggest bug bear is the difference in dial colour - unnoticible until you have them side by side, of course.

As it's  powered by a MIyota 8215, the slower beat rate matches the of the real thing, though if you have the watch in a certain position and watch long enough, you can sometimes notice the "stutter" that's common with this movement. Day to day it's unnoticible when wearing, however.

I've had the rep about 12 months and the gen for 9, so not had much wear from the rep, but all in all happy with what I got for what I spent!

Best, Neil

Took me an age to find suitable straps - as you know due to the fitting of the Omega buckle a standard strap wont work - you need one with an extra long piece at the 12 o'clock so that the buckle sits correctly under the wrist. Here's the two I found after looking for a LOOONG time:

Leather: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32966821589.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5b4c4c4dIpT9x7

Fabric/rubber: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32902967238.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5b4c4c4dIpT9x7

(as the fabric one is fitted/curved and intended for the PO, i needed some curved spring bars for it to fit)

Hope that's of use to someone and will save some time trying to track them down!

From the pic, I think the difference is the crystal’s AR? What do you think ?

Good spot, definitely a diffence with the AR. TD claims the AR is there, but it's certainly less effective.
