TAG Heuer Autavia - a new addition!

Recommended Posts

Del

The new TAG Heuer Autavia has been getting some good reviews since it was released at Basel World this year and I found myself quite taken with it when I saw the blue version in a local AD. That particular one was on a dark brown leather strap but I really wanted the bracelet version so I was fortunate enough to source one, which I picked up yesterday. They are beginning to appear in ADs now but only in small numbers so getting your preferred colour and strap option is currently not straightforward.

I’m very impressed with it. At 42mm it’s a lovely size for me, and the blue, polished ceramic bi-directional bezel is really stunning, as is the “smokey blue” dial. Of course, this has TAG’s new, COSC-certified Isograph movement inside so I’m interested to see how well it compares to my other watches with similar certification. The bracelet is great too, and is brushed s/s, although the mid-links are brushed in a different direction to the outer links giving the bracelet an eye-catching appearance.

The watch comes in a very smart wooden presentation box with a spare NATO strap, colour coded to the dial. This watch also has TAG’s new quick release bracelet/strap system that enables you to change over without tools - it’s superb! I think I’ll order a leather strap for this too, either in blue or tan - I’m not sure which yet!

TAG Heuer doesn’t always get a lot of love but with this new model, and the new movement, it looks like they have taken a big step forward.

I snapped a few photos this morning so I hope you enjoy them! :thumbsup2:

I like this design and the vintage aspects, I just wish they would ditch TAG from the logo.

Tag is a brand that I thought had lost it's way, but the new Autavia's look absolutely great - maybe something similar to the way the Black Bays have revived Tudor?

Very nice watch.  I'm partial to blue watches and that has a great dial.

Wow, nice!!! I'm waiting a good rep of these models...

What is its water resistance? And does it have a screw-down or push-pull crown?

Thanks Greg. I like it, even if it's a kind of a mish-mash between a pilot and a diver :)

More quality added to your stable @Del I like how you have so much variety & avoid the obvious whether conciously or not.

@deju I hear what you are saying & absolutely agree that purists would much prefer it with a "Heuer" only dial. The throwback styling would lend itself well to that but I believe that corporate shenanigans are at play here. It is a little strange though that the 3 register Autavia's launched in the last couple of years didn't have TAG on the dial yet these do........
