SCShrek 494 Posted October 11, 2019 OK...I debated about putting this out there as I am happy with it, being my first go at modding, but not satisfied with the mistakes I made... but here goes: Case: Lugs drilled for 2mm bars (lots of unsightly tool marks due to crappy drill bits), sharp edges removed, sanded and polished Bezel: Brassed Insert: Tried bleach but no fade whatsoever so I got a bit too happy with the scotchbright Dial: Lumed and matte coated Hands: Relumed Plexi: Replaced the huge dome with a Clark Tropic So basically, I used a vintage from MR and followed Rich's great guide. Never mind the insert sitting high at the 4 position, at the time I took the pics, the insert was just sitting on the bezel as I havent decided if I should put a coat of matte spray on it yet so It's not taped. I remember someone saying that he wished he hadnt sprayed his insert. PICS

GingerApple 7,271 Posted October 11, 2019 Not a fan of the watch, but great job on it! I was the person who wished I hadn't sprayed the insert and I think yours is great as is. Well done! How do you brass a bezel?

About 3 seconds under a butane torch and the bezel will go from silver to gold...that was the easiest part I have also seen where someone put the bezel on the plate of their gas stove. In all honesty, I do like the model but chose this one in order to stay away from having to lume indices since i was a virgin lumer... Is "lumer" even a word What was the problem with the matte on the insert? Just personal preference?

Before spraying, it look nicely aged. Spraying it made it look newer; it covered up some of the sandpapering effects.

Heck, that may be what this needs...by the time I got all the shine off, the edges were gone too...I went from the vintage look to the abused look.

Well, it's not going to put the paint back on the edges so I doubt it - but personally I like it the way it is. Each to their own.
