The King of Rolex vintage! BPF or JKF?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

i’m keen to get some opinions on this as i’ve heard rather a mix of opinions!

Who would you say makes the best Comex & pre Comex subs? I’m looking to pick one up but the research i’ve done doesn’t REALLY give off a clear best buy! I know the JK are amazing value from marvellous + they are more mod-able. However, some of the new BP pieces on trusty look pretty damn good out the box! (Vintaged lume & date etc)

What do you all think? Opinions greatly welcomed!

this is one of the pieces available at Trusty!

I just bought the JKF model A2336 movement for $170 from Marvelous Replica, the A2813 which is  probably more like the real thing was $100 or less.

JFK hands down.
cheap, moddable, and easy. Buy one, enjoy it. Slap a better dial on down the road.

Thanks! May I ask why the 2813 is more realistic? Is the beat rate the same?

Thanks! What dial would you recommend? Yuki? Also I know the crown is much larger, is this just a straight swap?!

BP lume markers are raised plastic "nubs" stuck into the dial.  BP pearls are ridiculously large.  Almost no crown guards to do anything with and they don't look right out of the box.

Get a JF, mod it yourself or have someone who knows what they are doing mod it for you.  All depends what you want to have done to it and how much money you're willing to throw at it.

It's just a tad less smooth more like the real deal

2813 is very cheap, but has 6 beat per second

2836 has 8 beats per second

gen 1570 movement (or whatever’s in it) has 5 beat per second.

I’m not sure if Yuki still does business, but if you can source a Yuki dial or a Viet or something, you have to clip off the dial feet and get dial dots and all that stuff. Or you can age the JKF dial and reapply some of your own loom.

I’ve just ordered two more 2813 JKF Subs from Marvellous (having already had 6), because at 100 bucks a pop they’re a modder’s dream!

It's superb value  - at 15mm, do they sit well on the wrist?

Perfect size, IMO. I do have slim wrists (I always have to take a couple of links out of an old oyster bracelet, 3 out of a modern one).
