1968 Rolex 5513 Matte Dial Submariner

Recommended Posts

In case you haven’t noticed, the Rolex 5113 Submariner is the hottest reference in the vintage Rolex collection. Seemingly every vintage specialist, dealer, and IG influencer is fawning over these two-line masterpieces. Some would say it’s precisely that clean dial that makes these so appealing. Others love the simple utility.

The owner of this one happened to have stumbled onto an Air King with a spectacular 1520 movement. Being keen on vintage Submariners, the build ensued.

No expenses spared, JAW case set, dial, and hands. Gen movement. Hand aged insert for that faded denim aesthetic. Crispy, clean case. And a perfect patins dial.

Enjoy!

Although not in the same (price) league as the 5113 pictured above, I love my very first Submariner:

Another comment...this is exactly what I feel. I have a hommage watch of a GMT 2 Pepsi...a rather nice piece from Ali... The dial has the trade mark and one line on top and 4 lines below the center. It also has the red GMT dial and a date window under a cyclops. The cristal is new and shiny...and when I look at it under office lighting conditions I can almost not read the time...it's just to busy in there and I need reading glasses anyway. My other hommage is a Tisell diver no-date...much easier to read for those old eyes. A matt dial and very slightly used acrylic glass make it much easier to read the time under sub-optimal conditions.

cheers

Uwe

PS: Beautiful watch...

Beautiful, are you going to wear it on nato only or also with a bracelet?

If I’m not mistaken, early 5513’s like yours would have a 7336 with 382 end links ?

The 18mm NATO between 20mm lugs...that is a classic! ...shaken, not stirred... ;-)
