At the moment, it’s as safe as receiving a watch from anywhere tbh. (If you are talking about Covid-19)

yes, my question sprouted from the Covid.....

But why is it as safe?

No guarantees implied in your reply, I would think

ok, I get what you meant....

so,then. I wonder why so many people seem to be selling and buying a fair bit on all of our forums....

Playing with fire or is it just me paranoid?

I only ask because my GP and specialists have labelled my as "risk" because of my two cancer surgeries and my COPD ....

and my diabetes.....

I know. I am not a picture of health..... I was not dealt good cards in this lifetime.

As mentioned from Foxinthebox , purchasing from china is safer than anywhere else.  To honest , your package has more risk to get the virus in your country customs or local post office than china and survive during all the shipping .

Mate, the rate of infection is exponentially rising and you have as much chance catching it via a domestically sourced watch (or any item for that matter). A virus can live on any hard surface for up to two to three days...

Anyway, take care and enjoy your watches. The thing that will keep you safest is self isolation and social distancing.

well...

I am contemplating buying a watch from someone in Australia and when I brought up the safety of shipping to me a watch he replied with this:

'' Covid free, non smoker, non drinker. All sanitized and the contents are perfect after antibacterial wash down with 75% alc/vol wipes and dried off so as to ensure no moisture in the packet. I can't guarantee the postal pixies, but I will guarantee that everything inside the package will be perfect. I know Covid19 lives on surfaces for up to 4 days. I will use gloves for final pack, I will pop the Bulova box inside an Australia Post box myself, and will put that in a final tape up by Australia Post, who will sticky tape the entire thing. Given your  health issues and present recovery, sir, I still suggest you wipe the outer box down using gloves, and when you get to the Australia Post box, and the Bulova box inside, all will be absolutely safe. Thanks for the excellent question.  "

That reassures me.

As for me, I have decided not to sell the 4 watches that I really need to offload but not in these times.....

and, of course, that is a personal decision

Your biggest risk is getting infected from the postie handing it over. Your normal everyday life will expose you to the risk many times greater than a virus being in a package.

To be 99% sure get someone else to unpack it in a sterile environment and to clean it in a Alcohol based rub.

unless i get the reassurance that me, COVID free, shipping can be as safe as any of the members doing so on this forum...

And Fox was some help already:blush:

This is what i do for all my packages from amazon or china :

- leave it in outside my door for 3 hours

- put some sterile gloves and grab the packet

- take it to my garage , spray it with alcohol and wipe it. Open the package , spray the inside , wipe it and leave it for 1-2 days before using the item

All this helps me to keep my house safe from that shit outside

To be honest , even if someone says this to me . I am more confident with my routines , than expecting someone to have sanitized the item for me

as I pasted here the seller's reply to my concern,

I will do very similarly....

I will wipe down the parcel with gloves and mask on.

I will then  change gloves and use a knife to open the parcel.

Despite what he told me his process was, I will then take the post bag out of the box and will wipe that down too.

Then, I will cut through the double bags. Once I get to the watch box, I will again change gloves and wipe down the outer and inner boxes until I open the inner box, exposing the watch.

I will then change gloves again and grab the watch and spray the entire piece with 91% rubbing alcl and then wash it down in a bucket of water with lysol solution.

Then rinse it in clean water again.

The watch is a gen dive watch so it will take all the washing. If it were a rep, I could not do any of that....
