greg_r 81 Posted June 12, 2009 Damn - sounds nasty - hope it's not a major db problem - MySQL can be a bit cranky when it gets to the kinda size that a board like RG needs... Of course, they'll be running on dedicated servers, so it could just be a hardware issue... Meantime, welcome Geeks! TBH I don't know for sure, but MySQL's the standard backend for all the major forum software - including vBulletin and iPB (yes, we're running on MySQL too). There are alternatives, but they each have their own particular pros and cons. There's not really a clear winner for our purposes - PostgreSQL is a bit more solid IME, but it tends to be even slower. There are other alternatives - the problem is that nobody is using them yet, as they've not really made any inroads into the marketplace. As a result none of the mainstream solutions vendors are using them. Chicken and egg situation.
