FunnyStarSystem 7,538 Posted May 31, 2020 If you had $2k US + or - a bit, what gen would you buy? It can be new or used.

GulfGT40 3,162 Posted May 31, 2020 I've been after a Citizen Aqualand for quite some time Not quite 2k but bidding has been fierce and more than I am prepared to pay for a secondhand watch that really needs a minimum of a new bezel insert, crystal, servicing and re-sealing. By that time I'd be getting near 2k. I my have had a change of stratergy and stroke of luck recently though, the postie should be here any day now.... review to follow...
Thommo82 1,397 Posted May 31, 2020 A couple come to mind Both very different, both come in under budget, why not buy them both?

Nothing in particular, it's just an interesting price point and I wonder what people might choose. I've always wanted one of these, used of course since they've long since stopped making them:
OJHorology 352 Posted May 31, 2020 I would probably go for a Breitling or Omega but... The reps are just too good for the models I like i.e. NWBIG

I remember my buddy in college received one of these from his parents for his 21st birthday, came in the yellow scuba tank - I've always wanted one since. Back then new I believe it was $350. Another I'd go for is a Fortis B 42 Official Cosmonaut:
Realism 72 Posted May 31, 2020 This might require some forum stalking and Ebay... But... You could get the 79220R (the B/N has a higher premium) for under 2k slightly without bracelet... And slightly above with bracelet... If you are willing to "settle" for the thicker case, and in house movement, the 79230R/B/N can be had much lower than the 79220 in most cases...This is assuming you like the dive style, sub-like alternative. Finally, there is plenty of pre-Kernes (VC) era Breitling out there that fills the current budget. The colt, SOH, etc...I'd recommend to go the pre owned route, as you get better value than going the new route.Good luck in the search.
Mike R 1,336 Posted May 31, 2020 I think I Would get the Breitling colt or maybe a ball. That’s two that are on my wish list https://www.exquisitetimepieces.com/pre-owned-watches/pre-owned-watches-2500-below.html
Jibuti 958 Posted May 31, 2020 Used base 44mm PAM. If 2k then it lost most of its value anyway. You can flip it easily.
Realism 72 Posted May 31, 2020 Used base 44mm PAM. If 2k then it lost most of its value anyway. You can flip it easily. Which base pam models are sold at $2k. I browsed on watchpatrol, watchrecon and Ebay and found asking/sold prices to range between 3.2k to 3.6k, with base PAM 111 to still be fetching 3.8k - 4k ++ (all values in USD, and dependent on conditions etc)

Chixisigma 461 Posted May 31, 2020 Seiko curveball! You'd need to up the budget to around 2.5 for a pre-owned but then it is the perfect diver so... Cxs
RussP 22,615 Posted May 31, 2020 and with the left-over change, I'd fit one of these into the $2K budget:
Khronos 1,339 Posted May 31, 2020 Sinn 103 St, the regular plexi crystal version. My personal favorite would be Breitling Aerospace Evo, because I love high accuracy quartz and ana-digi watches. Those old Omega Seamasters are not bad either, but you never know what you get. It might need expensive attention..

Aerospace is also a good investment. lume kicks Panerai ass and great AR.
