Budget Build : Cartel 6542 GMT

Recommended Posts

Been wanting a good 6542 from TS Station but wasn't sure if I wanted to wait around and spend 500+ for it.

Picked up a m2m cartel 6542 and wanted to test my new found skill set. The challenge was to finish the watch within 6 hrs, and not get any additional parts.

What I did:

Age dial with lacquer and relume it and dirty the indices up a bit

Age hands, not too much but wanted the vintage shine, a bit greasy looking with dirty lume

Age the bakelite bezel, wanted to brassify it but for some reason this one didn't wanna budge.

Soften the case, repolish with just enough dings showing.

Oil bath for the bracelet.

Budget: $175

Time: 5 hrs and 42 mins.

I'm pretty ok with how it turned out given the money and time spent. Curious to get your thoughts.

Thanks for reading. 76a25251f24f9678a11e6e93a7b7999f.jpg53fd6a1c792ae36e55af51d6874567c0.jpg86c5a3503f588568f10101dbb5a668b2.jpg0893b1a2e367de18fa7ec74a93aff897.jpg5fce74f3f5bf20320290ca08f1cebfb2.jpg

Nice work. Do you have a "before" picture to compare?

I wish I had the foresight to do so attaching some stock photos from the TD f5427ca575b9261ae497aad9b72bea96.jpg13e4ae737e5795689b03b98a9b987b4c.jpg9d30d67d55fc6b6caec12905bccdce85.jpg605e1fb337d20f730fe3d4412392de22.jpg

Nice work! Especially love a budget build :D

Does this watch use a Dg3804b movement?

That looks really good.  Did you take the insert out so you could see how it was secured?

Yes sir, the wire spring was a pain. The insert was glued on.

I admire the ballsiness of taking out the insert. Those are hard to replace if things go wrong.  Looks great! :thumbsup2:

Thanks man I didn't realize how tough it was until I had to put it back. Was victim of the Dunning-Kruger effect ....but it turned out ok.
