dave47 6,544 Posted November 27, 2020 HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all CONUS mates; Happy LIFE day to our International mates; during this time of infections and deaths, we must hold onto something to which we can give thanks. For PAMSDAY today, a retread from last week: this PAM on a nice chocolate strap with a sandwich dial. No, I don't know the model number; I've come to believe Panerai model numbers are too random and scattershot to be helpful to this OLD Fart. Still, it's one of my all time favs; and being a PAM, I can easily tell the time on the dial. dave:

When I wrote to ALPHA to ask them for guidance, so I wouldn't snap something, they recommended 30 winds. dave

BNIB, unworn ... you still see the odd one pop-up .. .. I think ALPHA did an initial run of 50 numbered that sold out quickly . .. they weren't that expensive direct from Alpha either . ... I think they were around £129. .. . I wasn't lucky enough to purchase one of them "SOLD OUT" . .. but browsing the web .. . alas one day luck shined on me and hey presto . .. I think they did another run later on ... .. this ALPHA is one of them . . I swapped the strap and buckle out . . but the original was also good enough. As a 12 year old I trashed a couple of automatic movements . .. probably by over winding them .. . .. Joe, the local watchmaker and seller of odds and sods ... .. recommended to me that I use "mechanical sympathy" when winding and I have never forgot this. I wind this ALPHA initially 36 half turns on the first day and 20 half turns every following day on the wrist there after. Keeps good time and I do like the silver sub dials with the little concentric lines and the dial colour variations. Of course back in the 80's after multiple mechanical watch repairs .. I had my fair share of digital watches during the digital watch peak of the early 80's . . . often as I remember purchased from the "Ice Cream Van" .. .. lol . .. and the Casio Melody H108 was my favourite . .. . . Anthems seemed to be the tune of the day . .. sounded like they had been recorded on a Xylophone. . . mines playing tunes like the "Flower of Scotland" ... and .. . "Rule Britannia" . ... . and the like . .. often wonder if the ones in the USA market played the tunes like star spangled banner and the ones in Australia playing Waltzing Matilda .. . etc ... etc .. ??? remembering now I may have had one with a recording facility .. . .. Eventually and bizarrely the Ice Cream Van started selling other watches under the counter and I often made purchases of the worst Rep's I can ever remember of Rolex and Gucci watches . .. as well as the odd double scoop of vanilla with chocolate sprinkles ... . . lol
